im thinking of buying g4 but its a good bit more than the os1.

i have not seen the g4 but online vs os1 the local hobby store has it to play on display. pretty neat. but g4 looks good.

what is the better of the two in your opinion?

thanks,

I would vote G4. I dont own either but have spent a few hours on each over the last few visits to the local hobby store. G4 looks better and feels closer to real life IMO. I also like the water birds on G4 :D

With G4 will of course get more planes and variety, but it is worth mentioning that with FSOne you will have a sim with excellent airplane physics and very accurate models. If you get FSOne with the "Hangar Pack" (the expansion pack with additional models), then you're looking at a total of about $130 (controller included).

I have FSOne and I'm very happy with it. Very accurate and runs very efficiently on the hardware as well.

I have to agree with Aero as I also have FS One's FlightSim and am very happy with it. If you are just buying one to learn how to fly, don't buy the G4. You're only buying more planes/helis/features. If you want all of that, then by all means, buy the G4. But you'll also pay twice as much. I do wish there was a way to add your own planes in FS One so you can see how they fly, but you can modify the planes that are in there (weight, size, motor size, etc.) to specs of your choice to kinda give you an idea of what if would fly like. In the end, I feel that the amount and different types of planes/helis in FS One will give you hours of enjoyment and you'll be able to fly just about anything. Just my 2 cents, but as was already stated, it's not a bad choice and money well spent too! Just think....that extra $100 you spend on G4 could buy you another ARF! And my LHS is selling the program and expansion for $99.00 which I'm sure yours will too.

I'm thinking about getting the FS One without the controller. Can I use my Spktrum transmitter with it? Can't beat the price.

This is from Hangar 9's website regarding Transmitter compatibility.
Joystick/Transmitter Interface
• Interface works with most industry transmitters
• Transmitter interface for use with real transmitters of up to 8 channels
• Keyboard support provided for additional aircraft controls
• Support for standard game joysticks included
• Built-in two-pilot support, useful for towing sailplanes and pylon racing
If that doesn't work, check this out: Hangar 9 Wireless Interface Adapter (http://www.hangar-9.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1665)

As far as I know Spektrums work with FSOne (and without the wireless adapter). Here is a more detailed outline for getting set-up with a DX6 from the InertiaSoft faq:

I recently bought the FS One sim because the price seemed like a good deal and in a few weeks the only flying I'll be able to do is on a computer. I've been having a problem finding a computer that will run the program. Took an hour to load the program on my Gateway laptop and then it wouldn't run right. I've ordered extra memory to bring it up to 1 gb from 512 mb. I'm hopeful that will solve the problem. I decided to put the program on my Dell desktop which seems to meet all the system requirements listed on the box. On this PC the program won't even load. It flashes a DOS window then closes instantly. I went to put the program on my Mac Book running XP in Paralells mode. The Mac wouldn't read the disks. Now I'm getting frustrated, because the only other PC options I have all run Vista. I suspect the program won't run with Vista, and there probably aren't any drivers for the controller. I could load XP in a separate partition on a Vista machine, but that is more work than I'm interested in doing and the Vista machines are used at work.

Has anyone had similar problems with FS One? Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any sims that run in Vista?

Thanks for the bandwidth.

SaltyOne -

Sounds like the problem is that you need to update the drivers on your graphics card on your computer. They are missing OpenGL support from the description you give.

FSOne does run on Vista. There's information about this on the FSOne site.

well i bought hanger 9's sim first and just wanted more aircraft so i also bought the realflight G4 and have all 5 upgrades (upgrades 1~4 are free) and then down loaded even more so i have well over 100 aircraft.

i like them both but use the G4 more because of the large selection to choose from. i fly in real life heavy 3d, and helis and find that G4 and Hanger 9 are both very good compared to real life rc flying.

BigBoyToys Lafayette have the FS One 3D Edge to test run.

Found the physics way different on FS One as compared to the 3d Yak in RealFlight G3. While I can hover away in RF's 3D Yak, the 3d edge was a different story on FS one. Was that due to better physics or no sound....

I'm currently looking for a Mejzlik 18x10 3 blade to hang on my DL50 + Obsession3D.

Can't wait; but, gonna have to.... Chief Aircraft are back ordered.... :-(
