DOn,
When will you be getting more Pentium 80's esc in stock, I have a pentium 60 im using in my HET F18 works GREAT... But the JS1400 I think needs some more amps, My top speed so far with the 60 and a FP 4s3300 is 119MPH. Im looking for 130+.
THanks,

if you're running the js1400 with a pentium 80, just take care when you're running your fan in. i was doing that last night, going from zero throttle up to 1/4 throttle, back down to zero and up to 1/2 throttle ect and the esc to motor wires got very hot. i'm assuming that was because of the nature of the way i was breaking my fan in (6904) and it was alot of power surging back and forth. don, should i worry about that? i'm using FP 25c 3300mah 4 cell packs if that matters, and my timing is set to low.

How long were you running your motor during the test? You have got me wondering now, I need to check mine, I did a basic run up test on a 3s lip to check for fan vibrations after completing that test I put the whole setup into my HET F18 the wires to the motor never go hot, Im going to upgrade to the 80AMP Esc to get some power out of the JS1400, heck the manual for the JS say to use a minium of 77AMP esc.

You have to remember that even at partial throttle the ESC see full throttle amperage just in smaller pulses. So the ESC wires are getting pulses of full amperage. The pentium ESC are good to 230F before they go to thermal shutdown.

i'd say it was running for 10 seconds at a time, but total run time might have been one mintue on and off again.

Great information Don, Also I order a pentium 80 from you last night. Cant wait to get that guy into my Het F18 the 60 has run great so far but want the 80 to get more AMPS to the motor as the JS1400 reccomends a 77amp esc be used.

Don,
Any plans to add larger pentium esc's to the line? I have been very happy with my pentium 40 with switching BEC. :)
I have a Hoffman magnetics outrunner that is going to need a 130amp capable esc.

Not at this time, as my pricing on the larger ESCs is horrible. The 60s and 80s I sell I barely break even on. I mainly just sell those for those who ask for them so they can one stop shop but I always keep low stock on them.

Hey Don i got my 80 Amp esc from you today got it all solder up and i put it in my BAe Hawk ....only pull high 40's(E-flight fan 70 mm/blue sapac 2836 3200kv motor. Works great in this set up ...i know it's over kill ,i may get a 60 amp one for this plane.but i was afraid to put it on my JS1400 cause im not sure of the motor's health...better not to fry a esc. can you tell me why when a motor goes it takes the ESC too?

Glad it arrived OK :D I think how the motor goes depends on if it takes the ESC with it. If you start to see motor smoke and stop you will be OK. If the motor shorts then your amp draw goes way up as you have a dead short trythat onthe eagletree once, you see 40 amps spike to 100 amps! The amp spikes I belive fry the FETs on the controller. I did that once on a wing I had, I overpropped it then the motor started to smoke but the ESC still worked. Once I got down low I added throttle again to help the landing, then then motor just stopped as it was totally fried, then the ESC stopped working. The BEC survived but a few FETs were blown. If I woudl have just done a dead stick landing I would have had the ESC still funtional.
Just my way of thinking, I may be way off, I do not know.

Hey Don,
I just ordered a Pentium 80 esc to go in my new GP Siren pseudo-hotliner. It is using a Axi 2860/10 motor and folding prop. Supposed to pull around 50 amps as configured.
All my other pentium esc's are being used in EDF planes, so this is the first one in a prop config.
Wondering if you have a suggestion on which timing to set for this application? The EDFs are all set to low, but not sure about this hotliner setup.
Thanks,
Ken

I would use high timing for that motor.

Don,
Thanks for the recommendation. We'll see what happens!
Also, to let you know...I have decided to keep my Pentium 60 with the bad bec. I installed a CC bec and it is working great. The hassle of pulling that esc out was not worth it to send back. I flew the plane yesterday with the cc bec and the pentium 60 worked great for throttle control.
Thanks anyway,
Ken

There is no reason why it should not work just fine like that and it seems to be OK since you flew it. If you have issues down the road we can take care of it.

Are you still carrying the 80A esc? Have a 60 but like an earlier post am putting in a JS1400 and need the extra magic smoke. If so what is price? TX.

What timing setting are you using on this setup? I have a few people asking. My guess is low timing?

what ever it was out of the package ...i solder it up and plugged it in .....i think default setting is low...i know on med timing it pick up 50 watts ...and a couple of amps .low timing is more than enough.

Don: Received my 80 today, thanks for the quick shipping. I am going to use it on a Q500 with a in-runner, Medusa 36mm-60mm, 1600rpm/v, turning a 7.4 x 7.5 prop 20800rpm, burning 70Amps on a 4-cell Lipo. What settings would you recomend.
Thank You

Inrunners I usually start off with low timing.

Just placed my first order from DonsRC for a 40 amp ESC. I placed it based solely on reputation that I have gathered here on RCGroups. Intend to put it in my Parkzone Mustang with 1100KV 480 outrunner and 9x9apc Eprop. I went with the better shipping as I am to go to Afghanistan again soon and wanted to get it before I go. Hopefully see it early next week.

Any reason why the Pentium 80 ESC wouldn't work with a Medusa 36mm inrunner on 6S? I'm thinking of powering a MidiFan that way. Don't want to shell out $180 for a CC HV ESC if there isn't any reason to.

According to the web site, the 80 will take up to 6s Lipos. The set up will be good for 80 Amps x 4volts x 6s =1920watts

one of the great things i've found with these esc's is, they're underated.
i continueously run my pentium 80 on a js1400 at 90+ amps and it doesn't even get hot. i did however, cut away a section of the shrink wrap on the esc to expose the heatsink.
if only we could get these pentiums with onboard data logging (like the cc ice) i'd never buy another phoenix esc again!

On 4S or 5S and do you use embedded BEC, or a CC BEC?
