In light of the great pictures in another thread concerning scale construction, I have coincidently recently published three pages of pictures outlining the construction of a 5.2 meter Puchacz aerobatic sailplane. There are some good pictures of a sprung fixed wheel installation, the right way to install knuckle hinges, and a look at how to get a good canopy fit. plus lots more. This is a big ship, but it is a good look at how to approach any typical euro "Rohbau" kit.

Puchacz ARGH:o(

My flight instructor and good freind were killed a few years ago flying a Puchacz. I can't remember exactly the culprit but I believe it had to do with some faulty controll surface conectors at the elevator. Apparently it disconected in flight just after tow release. From what I have heard there were many other similar accidents resulting in dealths with the Puchacz. I would imagine the problem has been fixed but to bad people had to die to find out. Anyway, your model will not have the same problem. By the way where did you get the kit?

This is a line I import from Germany, HB.
They are special order and made to spec.

I have a friend who fly's one (full scale), aparently updated. It is a wonderfully smooth sailplane light on the controls. He enjoysflying it as much if not more than anything else.

Hey John,

The R/C Puchacz on your site (#71) sure looks nice. I had heard that the puch was such a nice plane to fly from my clubmembers, but I never had the chance to fly it before it went in. I hope to build a nice scale ship one day but the cost is currently a bit steep for my pocketbook as well as our local field is quite small. I am a big fan of Vintage sailplanes which would work OK for my field. I really like the Nemere that is being imported but its quite expensive. Maybe one day I'll get around to building something, but for now i'm flying TD and DLG.

Best Regards,

Marc Webster
