I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this or not, but here it is.

I've got about 8 or 10 flights on my PZ Corsair and it flies great. It is my third airplane and my first venture into the world of 2.4gHz radios with the DX5 it came with.

The last time I took it out I had a problem that almost cost me the plane twice. After flying for about 10 minutes I decided it was time to land and entered the pattern. I pulled the power to land and the plane snap rolled into a spin. Not a big deal, just recover and land. The problem was that I had no control input at all. I regained control about 30 feet off the ground and continued to land. Due to the spin I had to add power to get to the runway. When I had the runway made I pulled the power back and nothing happened, it just stayed about half and it wouldn't land normally with that much power. In retrospect, I should have just put it in the knee high grass next to the runway and called it a day, but at the time I didn't think the radio would hang me out to dry again and my call was to go around and try again. I got to the place where the first spin occurred and the same thing happened. This time I didn't get control back until I was just off the ground. Remember the knee high grass next to the runway? I had to pick pieces of it off the landing gear and wings after I landed. After regaining control I made a normal landing and called it a day.

Has anyone else had trouble with lost radio signal? Some of the guys at the field thought it might be the speed control shutting down. I am new at this electric stuff and really don't know what to do to identify and correct the problem.

this kind of sounds like a lockout, buy a capacitor its like 6 bucks, spektrum makes it horizon has it or your lhs should have it. I had something like that happen on my t-28 with dx7 and ar7000, the capacitor fixed it

Where do I put it? Or is it self explanatory?

Do you have a picture of this capacitor ?

the capacitor is a fix for the old brown out problem caused by low voltage dips! It just plugs into any open channel on the receiver.I dont think this is your problem. when you loose the plane does the motor stop running or does the power stay the same? your best bet is to call Horizon cust support. if you do indeed have a radio problem they will be happy to replace the plane..but do it before you crash it..

sounds like a ESC BEC problem..I would do as turbonut says and call cust support before a crash occures..

I went by my lhs yesterday looking for the capacitor, but he didn't have one. He also told me about the brown out issue and he didn't think the capacitor would fix my problem. He's supposed to check with Horizon to see if there is a solution and get back with me, but I'm also going to check with them myself. I'll pass the word when this is resolved.

Another thing it might be is the "black hole" at the north end of our field. Every several months there is some kind of anomoly on the north end that takes control of airplanes and does with them as it may. It is very rare, but it is documented. This would be the first occurance of this happening on 2.4 that we know of, and would probably be the furthest south it has ever happened.

Regardless, the Corsair is grounded until I get this figured out.

thats not it. The brown out is caused by the ESC BEC. Measure the BEC voltage. Better yet do a series current test of the radio and servo BEC circuit while using another meter to measure the BEC voltage.. A bad servo or a servo that is binding can cause a drop in BEC voltage. A current meter in series with the lipo will give you the answer. Look for high current readings when moving each servo to its extreme with the TX.
