THE FRONT FELL OFF
On August 19th 2007, an oil tanker off the coast of Australia split in two, dumping 20,000 tons of crude oil.
Senator Collins, a member of the Australian Parliament, appeared on a TV news program to reassure the Australian public.
This actual interview is so funny, you'd swear it was a 'Saturday Night Live' skit -- or that the Senator is actually John Cleese in a Monty Python episode.

That's because the skit is by Australian comedians John Clarke and Brian Dawe.

Very funny they are too.
They take a current affairs or news story each week & give it this sort of treatment.
A pretty good portrayal of how some politicians carry on though, don't you think?
Cheers.
Paul.

Still tickles the Funny Bone how the ABC lightened the seriousness of the original incident in 1991.. Yep the Tanker actually lost its' bow. And what a mess it made..
Who says Ozzie humour can't pass the test of time. 17 Years & still a hoot..
The actual incident

A good read though.

Its amazing that so many sites give that date, when the incident was actually 17 years ago. Repeat something often enough and it becomes the truth
anything you read on the net needs cross checking ;)

While "Gidget" was eliminating $200 million of earmarks in the Alaskan state budget, "Mr. Change Obama" was voting for $900 million of earmarks in the Federal budget. If you like earmarks, then the choice is clear.

On the subject of Maritime Politicians..
What Idiot would approves towing a stricken, nearly sinking Oil Tanker nearly 900 miles along one of the most productive Crayfish (Rock Lobster) Nurseries in Australia..
Stright back along & against the Leeuwin Current that flows south, right back from where the Tanker came. 100nm out to sea surely wasn't enough,
Doesn't say much for the Powers That Be.. Had we not changed party recently we too could have ended up with Abbott & Costello.. Another great Comedy Duo.. That's Tony & Peter...
All we got now is Mr Rhetoric.. When will it ever change...

I got back from holiday & just finished watching Saturday Night Live's VP Debate skit. About the only good thing I can say about part of this election is that its given SNL another lease on life for the season. Heaven help us if Tina Fey is still doing Palin skits come Jan 21.

In all seriousness, I only wish we had a candidate who had the guts to tell us all what is really in store for the US. Of course, that person would never be elected, let alone chosen by their respective party to run. As a student of economics & history, I fear we are all just sitting in the Coliseum waiting for the free bread while the show goes on.

This has been the best SNL has been in close to 4 years - but the reality since I have been old enough to vote in the US the candidates presented for president have been a choice between Cancer and Leukemia - Leukemia will kill you, but cancer can go into remission - So again I get to decide to identify which candidate represents cancer - the sad part my wife and I don't see a real outstanding cancer candidate. We are at the point of voting for one that has been identified as not going to win the election as a statement that neither candidate is worth voting for.
Happy voting day

Well, Rich -- if this rumor about a 'New" Presidential Candidate is true, it might make us all very happy, but it would sure cut into Charlie's build time.
Because of concerns like those expressed above, there's an effort to elect an unknown random person as President... and it's someone we know! Watch this online video about the surprising new nominee:

From Google News:
• The big news today: The federal government may take over part ownership of banks. Investors like the idea, but, honestly, since it's our tax money that will buy the banks, doesn't that mean that when the bank forecloses on you, you're foreclosing on yourself?
• And did you hear this? The national debt clock in New York City ran out of space the other day when the debt topped $10 trillion. President Bush said, "That means we'll never owe more than that, right?"
• Think of that. We owe investors and countries $10 trillion. You know what that means, right? We're the AIG of nations.
• On the positive side, if we are the AIG of nations, that means we get to go party at a spa resort in California. Whoooooo!
With the Dow headed south & China's press writing about the coming "The Great American Depression of 2009", I'm turning off the news & heading down into the workshop.

Sorry, but just had to post this after seeing the headline. If you are a Bruce Springsteen fan, you'll understand the following caption.

McCain’s poll numbers have fallen and he can’t get up!
Where's FDR when you need him? I'd vote for any millionaire Democrat ex-governor who can think outside the box.
