My question is would the motor below power this 28LB plane Caps 580 with a 14S set-up
according to the math it would be around 5700 watts / 190 watts/Lb
do you think is worthy motor ? it's only $150.00

i think i would work. not super power but i am planing on about the same watts per pound on my plane. what esc are you going to use?

I'm leaning toward the CC 110 HV , I have one in my Extra 25% CMP 330L it will handle up to 14s,
I like the Turnigy ESC 100HV priice, $100.00 but it will only go up to a 10S I don't think it will handle it
Bob
Nice Build on your Sukhoi
WOW that motor is hugh what kind of mount are you going to use?

are you using li-pos or A123s? the HV-110 can only handle 12-cells. at lest thats what CC says. and for 5700 watts on 14s you will take about 120amps ans that esc is rated for 110 amps. yes i dont think the Turnigy 100 will handle it. i got one to use with the motor at first and tested it at 50amps and it held up fine but that was only 10s, its rated at 12s but ive herd that some escs dont work vary well with 12s.

thanks.
ya it is. i think i will mount it the same way as i would a gaser.

I'm using Lipos. and you're right the CC is rated for 12S but I will not push the set-up with the 14S set-up I'm more of a lite Aerobatic flyer a not into the heavy 3D stuff..

I answer to your original question regarding the HXT motor on your Ca; today I ran the HXT 80-100-130 motor on a test stand:
HXT 80-100-130 motor
Turnigy Sentilon 100A speed controller
Xoar 27x10 propeller
4- 6S Hyperion LVX 5000 batteries 12S-2P
40 lbs 11 oz thrust
116 Amps
5215 Watts
The Turnigy Speed controller worked fine as long as I was gentle on the throttle. Any sudden movements would cause it to lose time with the motor. I am not surprised as I dought that they had a motor this large when they designed the software.

I'm on the same project!
I pick up few parts of the CAP 580 1/3 scale (cowl, wheel pants, canopy) and i'm building the CAP myself.
My goal is to make it lighter than the GP airframe to use smaller power systems.
For the moment I bought the sentillon 100A and 4 rhino 5S 4900 packs (only 66$ each!) to have two 10S1P packs.
I still don't choose the motor (maybe an AXI 5345)
For your CAP, the HTX seams to be a good choice. With the appriopriate ESC you will be able to pull 6000W+ (=8 HP), which is absolutely sufficient :D
