I read somewhere that Evercoat is good for attaching subdecks to fiberglass hulls. Supposedly it has several advantages over other materials. Two questions. First, where could I find it locally and second, what do you folks think of it? Thanks :)

Check out "serious" automotive paint stores... most regular autoparts chains only cary "bondo"
I have used a lot of evercoat, both the filler and the 2 part spot putty and really like it a lot- I've had very good results with it...
Good luck! :)

The "good stuff" is catalyzed glazing putty - it requires a tube of hardener, just like bondo. You can use it for filler, as well as structural components. Local is a relative term - if you drive to my town you can buy it at Knight's Paint. :)
Seriously, you need to find a store that sells automotive paint to the body and paint trade. My city has 12,000 people, and it has one, larger towns will have more, and big cities usually a good selection. Or you can buy it online, or even eBay.

Here is a page on my site that covers the use of this product:

bondo now has a catalyzed finishing glaze (spot putty with hardener) comes in a 1lb kit for under 10.00, nice flip top press pump bottle, fills the small pin holes before it starts to set up, sandable in 30 min. check at most chain auto stores, (auto zone, advance, pep boys)

Kurt, it was your tips that lead me to this product. I live in a town of 1200,but theres several towns of 8000-12000 nearby :D . I guess I was wondering if one of the chains carried it so I could find it easier. I thought of mail order, but I didnt think you could send products like it through the mail...guess I was wrong. Thanks for all the advice folks.

Evercoat---. The name stuck in my mind when I read this thread yesterday. ;)
Then last night in my shop, I saw the connection---. A can of Evercoat durabuild acrylic lacquer primer on the shelf. :)
Yeah, good stuff. My local source is Keystone Automotive Industries, but you might want to try the manufacturer too. www.evercoat.com

Hey I send 2 tubes and hardner to you on my R/C tug. I pointed it in your direction and opened the throttles. Should be there in.... well...... never.
Sorry I couldn't help. :D

Kurt PM'ed me the item # and Im going to order some from a parts store 30miles away. Per the recommendations on this thread, I emailed Evercoat and they gave me the "local" distributors number. I called the distributor and the closest store that sells their products is....one store 30miles away. I'll call them tomorrow and order the product. Last night I sanded my subdeck to fit, so next step is to attach it to the deck and this is where the Evercoat comes in. Im hoping it will fill in the gaps and provide a very strong bond. I'll let you know what I think of it.

Now, I have to get going on this project before winter weather prevents me from working outside. I don't want to make my house uninhabitable. :)

LOL!!! :) I like the way these fillers smell... but the stuff almost landed me in divorce court during a "big" project in the garage a couple of years back... ;)
The smell does fill the house and does not go away for a while... (longer than a nice dinner out to make up! :o )
Working outside is the way to go!
