How are these "kind" of aircraft called?
It just looks like a ducted fan with cameras and sensors attached to it.

Monorotor UAV? Micro air vehicle? How do they work?

Any links to further info of such vehicles is greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to the Army's MAV? (Micro Air Vehicle)

If so, it's made by Honeywell.

This type of UAV typically uses a ducted fan for lift and vectored thrust to control flight. I'm kind of at a loss for their military applications as the seem to be slow moving targets that would easily be taken out in a combat cituation.

The MAV is used for "seeing over a building" in an urban environment or "getting a closer look" at a possible IED that's just up the road. Hover and stare...that's its mission.
