Hi guys,
i've designed a 2 seat hydrofoil recently and i need to make a test model before i get in the real one, this test model will be 3 feet long. the real one is 9 feet long so it's a 1/3 scale model. i'm not exactely sure what to power it with i know i want to run some kind of an outboard engine, and i want to simulate the real thing as closely as possible. i have my cad drawings and i plan to make a plywood mold for both versions. i've included pictures of the plywood mold.. i've kept the design simple enough to make it easily, but it still has exotic looks.
well anyways, here's the foiler 1/3 scale model.

Looks like a great project.
Do we get to follow the model and the full size builds?

of course, you guys will.

i'm trying to figure out how i'm going to get the correct airfoil on the back foil, as it curves in a funny way.

any suggestions guys?

I would guess you don't want to 'sweep' the foil shape around a radius, but keep the same cross section vertically as you move it around the radius.

I'm not sure it will have a big impact on a hydrofoil of that size. A swept foil shape might work just fine. You might be able to get away with a thinner cross section.

Make an accurate FLAT wing with the desired airfoil of the appropriate span, plus a few extra inches. Apply pressure from the ends to cause it to arc. Lock that in a fixture. Make a mold of the bent wing according to standard practices. Lay up your real piece in this mold. Voila!
