hey all
I have built a small hover craft (trash bag skirt with a foam core body) lifted by an inexpensive DF and it worked but looking at hovercrafts.com he has several of his larger craft that use axial (i.e. squirrel cage fans) for lift. I was thinking about building one if only just to prove that it can be done and see how much air it moves for a give amount of current from the batts. It would seem to be much more efficient way to move large amounts of air (like the lift fans of hovercraft) and use DF's for propulsion since the craft will hopefully be free of the surface they are riding on.

yes they do produce alot of air aat a low RPM as awell but when you do make it it must be acurate as i had a go at makeing one and tried it out and it exploded poor construction really but it must be balanced for fans i now go to Model-hovercraft.com he makes them well at a resnable price with regards to mounting the fan i do it the same way as Mark get an AXI brushless motor turn it upside down so the shaft is facing towards the bottom of the craft and as its an out runner the fan has a central cone that fits on to the out side of the motor and bolts on to the bottm of the motor if that makes senes see link for details http://www.flickr.com/photos/19759955@N07/2062198507/in/set-72157604498903510/
