hi

Just trying to find the most suitable Theraband rubber for 2m glider class. Any comments would be appreciated.

Just other question, how does underpowered rubber and overpowered rubber effect in launching height?

Just how do you use Theraband to launch gliders? I should think surgical tubing would be far more robust. That's what I've always used. I've used Theraband for other things and am not impressed with its durability.

If you're making a high start with it, then the stronger rubber, at least if you are strong enoug to pull it out and the glider is strong enough to take the load, will almost always launch higher. THe exception is on a windy day when a weak high start won't pull in at all but will stretch as the glider pulls on it. I've snapped a hi start this way, but it does give a high launch.

Hey Lincoln, I believe he is referring to the Theraband tubing. I have been using it for a while and love it.

The Blue will launch my Spirit 100 with no problem and launched a 1.5m hard enough to strip a flaperon servo. It was a tiny servo but just the same it was cruisin'. The blue is much stronger than my red surgical tubing it snagged off e-bay.

I got the red surgical tubing I got was less $$$ but I preferr my Blue TB for 2m and over. I ordered 100' a while ago and love it. I made links inthe ends my putting screw eyes into sections of plastic coat hanger about 2" long and sliding them into the tubing. This way I have many combinations available. I have 3 lengths of cord and 4 lengths of tubing, this combination is great because I can even link tubing together.

The choice of rubber cross section and length for a high start is covered at:

http://charlesriverrc.org/articles/design/dickwilliamson_histartphysics.htm

A key choice is the cross-sectional area of the rubber. Theraband rubber may differ from surgical tubing in its tension versus elongation, but the same principles would apply.

The SULA club has been using the green Theraband for our twice weekly park contests. Typically, we're launching 1.5 and 2M gliders and a bunch of EZ Gliders. It lasts about a year (approx. 60 launches a week) and through Amazon, it's $42 inc shipping for 100'.

I've flown my 100" Gemini woodie on this set-up and it was on the light side. An Oly II would probably be OK.

Hey, it's good to know there's another source for high start tubing. I have an Aerofoam hi start for 3 meters, and it's very nice, but of course it costs quite a bit too. Justifiably so. Perhaps if I need a smaller one sometime.

Thanks for your comments, and yes, I meant about tubing, sorry for that. I have already Nesail Large for F3J practise usage, but thats bit too robust for 2m glider, called Miles 2m (building it currently). Green sounded to me quite optimal for 2m contest usage, for calm and windy condition, it may be a good compromise (cant afford may rubbers for different conditions). I would order hosemoster, but becomes too expensive to get back in Finland. Theraband is sold worldwide, and heard good stories of it.
