I need help with a Hobby-Lobby EDF Rafale

I ordered my first EDF, a Rafale on Labor day, and was very excited to receive it and couldn't wait to get it in the air. It hasn't made it that far.

When I received it I plugged everything up without glue to test the components, and when I tried to give it some power, it made an awful grinding noise that only lasted for a quick second, and then it powered up. Powered it down, and try to power it up again it gets to half throttle and goes up and down as if the battery is dead. I tried to call Hobby-Lobby but all I get is a machine. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want to fly this plane!

Hobby Lobby has responded, and although the parts are on back order until 10/24, I'm scared to tear into it myself so they are going to authorize return/exchange.
