Hello,
I have built the RCD programmer from FENG3's web site and downloaded the software (picprog4u) also.
I used this programmer to program pic16f84a chip successfully. Recently my system was infected by virus and I had to format my pc and re-install windows. Now the software does not detect my programmer at all , I built another programmer (modified JDM) thinking that there was a problem with the RCD programmer, but still i cannot get the software to detect my programmer. Is there a problem with the com port of my pc? can I check it in any way??

thanks!

P.S. before when I used to connect my programmer, the led would not glow, but now when I connect the programmer the LED comes on and stays lit.

Which version of Windoze are you using?

Does XP require a patch for serial programmers of this ilk...( similar to the JDM one...)?

You ought to be able to test the com port using Hyperterminal and a loop back connection maybe... Send out a character and see if its read back...

Yes I am using windows XP SP2, I have tried winpic, winpic800 and ic prog also but none of them seem to work. I did use the patch for IC prog. Can u please tell me in a little detail about the process of checking the COM port?

thanks!

Com port testing is best described here:

You could boot up in DOS and use Debug or Symdeb to set/clear pins and use a LED with jumper ,remember polarity changes,,you shouldn't need any limiting ?? the pins used to be limited to about 10 ma,,,,ie this is if you have an old dos version.....you should be able to find on web..

I think the debug command was out port#,data

I tried the loopback com port test and there is no problem wih my port I would also like to tell you about the strange behaviour of my software, before format, ic-prog used to work properly on my pc, but now when i click the program, read or verify button, ic-prog simply stops responding.
