View Full Version : Discussion Thermal soaring in Oregon?

Since I would be visiting friends in Lincoln City I wrote an email to the contact name for the Portland, Oregon club a few weeks back asking about flying sites in the state including ridge soaring and thermal possibilities and sites, but never received an answer.

So, after a visit last week I'm pretty up on the slope sites on the coast, but I'm also into thermal flight and hope that the state and clubs support this and support new people moving to the area. Comments/suggestions?

TIA,

-bob

Bob,

You can email Dave Portwood on the new Google RCSE group. He just posted regarding one of his recent achievements.
The regional contests in Portland are held in Blue Lake Park. Here is a recent flyer with a map along with another local contact.

The site is somewhat secure but I would guess someone would be willing to meet and fly.

Glad to help...If you ever make it to Eastern Washington between Jim and I should be able to get you squared away :)

On a side note do you know when Sage will set the date for the Blue Skies DLG contest?

Thanks

Ken

Hi, Ken

If I'm ever heading that way I'll be sure to put a shout out. :)

As far as the BSOA contest I really can't say but if I'm not mistaken the last two took place in April, so it's probably a pretty good bet that it'll be about the same time. Are you planning on attending? It's really a great contest with a lot of great people attending.

Phil Pearson said he had a blast last year.

Usually about April I am getting the itch...tired of building and want to go flying.
I would like make reservations but need a solid date before I can start. Got some reward points to use before they expire for the plane tickets.

Ken,

You'll have to check with the SAGE guys or ASK for a date...I live in the Phoenix area and won't know anthing before you will regarding the hard date.
