hello im a new member, and also a new to the rc boating. although i have
had a couple of nitro cars im new to the electric side of the hobby. im
building a 72" mono and on a tight budget and yes i mean tight :( . i
reduced the 72" to a 45" and the side walls to 3 1/2 inches my goal is
to run the boat at the beach to jump waves etc. and while at the lake to
fish with it. i took the motor off a drill and due to my budget i will
also be using the drills battery. its a bit heavy but i will need the
weight for the fishing. as for the esc i was gonna use the drills
trigger hooked to a throthle servo but the trigger broke so i was
thinking of buying some cheap 100amp esc i saw on ebay and i was
wondering if maybe that would be to much? the motor is a big heavy duty
18 v, and bigger then a 540 motor prolly somewhere in the 700 i'd
geuss.

the lowest I'd go amp wise for that size motor would be a 60 amp unit. 100
amps just means the esc will run cooler. hth

No problem having MORE ESC than the motor requires. I always 'oversize' my
ESC's
