Reporting

People need to lighten up. The harmless things I've seen reported lately are just over the top sensitivity. It is sucking the fun out of this site. If you see something you don't like, move on. If you see a thread you don't like, move on. To sit there and go through each post on a thread LOOKING for things to report is a bit vindictive, and can only be viewed as looking to cause trouble. There are many ways to troll, and looking through threads with no other intension but to seek things to report certainly falls under one of them.

No biggy, Sometimes you get the attention of a net nanny. Just edit the post saying it was reported and let it sit if there is nothing to be reported in it. I had one post reported a few times and then just added "again" to the reason for editing. As in Reason for editing: I got reported so I must edit, again, again. It seems eventually she will forget about it and start picking navel lint, or pickling toe jam again or whatever it is that net nannies do.

Maybe one of these days we'll see a modification to the software that ignores the frequent clickers. :D

It seems that there are reporting frenzies from time-to-time. A new rule:

You mean I could still get reported for using the word damn from months ago?Post(s) that broke a rule, no matter how old, can and are reported by those who are willing to go back through the history of a members posts. If a post is found, no matter how old, and it breaks a rule, and is reported, that post will be flagged.

Should there be a statute of limitations ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statute_of_limitations ) on post violations?

Maybe a good question to pose in the Site Suggestions / Complaints (http://www.rcgroups.com/site-suggestions-complaints-259/)? I'd do it but have been asked not to ask anymore questions in that forum.

I belong to another site that took care of the reporting problem. They eliminated anonymous reporting. If you reported someone, they were notified of who reported them. Negative reporting has all but ceased.

Usually, when I feel a rule has been broken and the harm directed at me I'd:
warn the member of their perceived bad behavior within that thread
if he relents post the rule I feel has been fractured
If that fails report them and post that I've done so

I don’t understand why whistle blowers are afforded anonymity. Why should they be allowed to hide?

If a member feels a rule has been broken they should step up and say so and why.

IMHO, if a post is reported, all the reporting members should be listed on that post.

I’d wager that that would cut down on reporting.

Will you're just a plethora of information. I don't know how you do it. I remember the report your reports thread. I really wish the powers that be would do something about the anonymous reporting problem. It's really gotten pretty old. I understand the whole "don't break any rules" concept but some of the things some people get targeted for are ridiculous. And the points being handed out don't seem to be on a fair & level basis. Especially if an advertiser is involved in a dispute.
