Hi all,
I am looking for a kit so that I can control the cost of a glider. It will be used for Aerotowing. So I am not worried about a winch start.

I however should have ailerons, and want either flaps for crow or Spoilers.
Something that has good speed range is a desire also. I have not been able to find anything and am now thinking I may have to do a scratch build. That may be a little out of my league, but If I have no other choice, i'll have to give it a try.

Advise away.. Suggest a glider or at least a airfoil or 2.

Oh I almost forgot I was something near 3 meters.
I like the look of T-Tails but will Settle for a +

It's not 3M, but have you looked at the Thermik 2.5 at arthobby.com? More work than an ARF, have heard that it's nice to fly, not as expensive as many. Not a 3M, tho. I'm sure you could adapt it to have flaps or spoilers.

Art hobby site is not working just a blue screen like it got hacked.

Hmmm... usually works ok in Firefox, not today. Perhaps you should try another browser, as I.E. (yuck!) loads it ok.

It worked last night... must have been a short term server error or something else

Unlimited budget? How much do you want to spend for the plane alone?

BTW, building a kit is not always cheaper than buying an ARF. But if you like to build, that does not matter.

Almost any glider can be aerotowed.

Most of the wood kits I see in the 3M range are RES.

I would certainly look closely at the offerings from ArtHobby. They have 3 meter and less sailplanes with very good performance that also incorporate flaps/ailerons, T-tails and V-tails, whatever. I feel that these are an excellent value; arguably the best bang for the buck out there.

I am trying to go on the cheap. Ailerons are very usefull when it come to aero towing.
I was looking for something in the wooden glider price range. I was hoping to stay in the sub 200.00 range ARF or Near 100 for a kit. I know that is on the low side but Heck I can be cheap.

It was unclear to me if the Thermic is a kit or a ARF, Looks close to a ARF from what I could tell.

PS. I have been looking at the Marader, Modding the build to add Ailerons

Easy to add flaps and ailerons. 132" span. It's a big plane.

Not sure of the current price.

I'll check it out. I kinda learned on a Olly II about 20 years ago.

Does the new one have a better airfoil then the originals. The originals were flap bottom floaters, I am looking for something with a little better wind penitrating ability,

It's only a bit over your stated price range, I think they said $225 or $235 depending on the tail.

If I'm not mistaken, the wings are presheeted but you have to do more assembly than with many ARF's.

The Oly 3 has a faster airfoil than the old Oly 2. I think it's the 3014, which is somewhat like the 3021.

You might find the Skybench Scale kits attractive. Most people I know who like to aerotow prefer scale sailplanes.

Skybench Challenger should be a great fit - Modify for ailerons

The Spirt 100 kit has been discountinued. But the ARF, at $169, is cheap. Should be an easy mod to set it up for aerotow. Not 3M but in your price range.

Bird of time kit is still available for $69. If you are a builder, you should be able to modify to create flaps and ailerons.

It has a 3014 airfoil. Really a much better performer than the old flat bottom IMO.

If you build it with ailerons, you probably will want to cut the tip polyhedral down some.

Here's what you can do with it. Not mine, but a real beauty. Note the ailerons and minor wintip and tail shape mods. It's an Oly III.
