Seeing as how the Sensidyne pumps have dissapeared off of the market (C'mon, who bought them all? ) and I'm in need of a couple of small pumps for an 'up and coming' project.. i thought i would try making a pair of low flow water pumps.
I've begun to make up a pair of Centrifugal water pumps.... This is the progress so far..
My next part is to find some 'O' rings to fit in the back of the 'housing' and to make up the impeller.

The flow from a windshield washer pump / model plane fuel pump would be too much for the application i have on the boat I'm about to build. The pumps i need are only to move water to cool the ESC and motors...
Also, I have limited space and a weight limit... :(
I can find 'Micro pumps' on the net, fairly easily... but they are at a HUGE $$$'s...

I wish I had bought more. At the online surplus store where I got mine they had 645 units for sale. I bought 4 initially, and then another 8. I posted about them here on RCG (remember, there was another fellow who alerted us to these Sensidyne brand pumps) and within a few days after my post they were completely sold out.

I'll check with my local electronic junk store to see if they have any more or know where to find the cheap ones.

Danger den dumped most of their affordable pumps, but
they have this acrylic one that is 12 volt dc...
http://www.dangerden.com/store/product.php?productid=326&cat=98&page=1#tabs
Is that a 400 series motor toes?
When I first looked, I thought, "A 500 motor? it will squirt water across the pool!"

The pump part looks to be quite big Umi (no dimensions?)... and when you add the motor to it, the price goes $$$'s
Its a spare motor from a 18th scale truck i have, what its size is i have no idea, but it runs at quite low revs on 3.5v..

Aahh, I didn't realize it was only a decorative pump... Laing pumps are spendy..
I would have guessed about 2.25" square...
Maybe looking for micro air pumps would help, but no one shows any pricing...

You might find an electric squirt gun. Most have a plastic reciprocating pump. High pressure, low volume. Dennis

I've found this...

The pump looks bigger than a car windshield washer pump. :(
The list price for the pump (from other sites) is between $135 and $150...

Toes, I've got this link http://www.muco-modelbouw.nl/show_product.php?self=index.php&products_id=4242084&lang_id=1 It's a robbe and looks like a 280 mabuchi is being used, check with a local robbe dealer I would suggest. There are more pumps on that site as well. Maybe a fuel pump at about half a liter a minute: http://www.conrad.nl/ and search for "pomp". Hope it helps! Boo

No progress at the moment.. though i have found a 'boss' for the impeller :D
The impeller design will be quite simple, only 4 straight blades..
My current project is coming to a close, so i might get some more done to the pumps this week ;)

Toes,
I went to my electronic junk store and no more pumps. I did find out though that they were bought about 10 years ago and they finally ran out about 2 years ago. Sorry.
But....
Got talking to a customer there and a couple of years ago he bought some battery powered sprayers from Home Depot. They were in the lawn and garden section with the bug spray stuff. You could convert a regular trigger spray bottle to battery power. Maybe I should get out of the tool and lumber department once in a while, a new one on me.

I checked with Sensidyne, the pumps we all bought back then, retail for $54

PC cooling pumps, several models. The link takes you to one of them.

Beware if you buy the PC cooling system pumps, most aren't self priming.

I've looked at several PC pumps Shaun... Most are expensive, most (including the one you linked to) are HUGE compared to what we modellers are looking for (its 'pipe' connection is 1/2" ) and most, if not all are VERY weighty (1.4lb  )...

Check at Caswell. They sell two sizes of pumps that move air as well as water. Around $17. They should work for cooling your electronics.

That's just one of several. There are two smaller pumps at $50 on the site and they are 'self contained' and microsized as the motors are part of the pumping system. Most are 3/8" connectors that can easily be reduced to 1/4" gaining pressure in the process.
For a group of people that spend $1000 on a boat and gear, I wouldn't think so many of you would be shy about $50 - $100 for a good pump. Windshield washer pumps, cheap pumps have a lower life span than a good one.
UMI talked about saving up for the right 'saw' but you shouldn't save up for a properly built, high MTBF pump for your fireboat that took you several months to build?
If you buy a cheap RTF, I can see buying the cheap pump to go with it. If you have a nice pricey boat, save and put the nice pump in it.

I agree Shaun... If i could find a pump that is the right size, even if it was expensive, then i would buy it.
However, 'Microsized' at 2.4" x 2.4" x 1.5" is still to big to fit in the project i have.

I stopped in over at Lowes and they have some battery powered pumps that come with a gallon of insecticide. Spectricide was one of the brands that had a pump. http://www.spectracideterminate.com/ProductCategories/OutdoorInsecticide/TerminateCarpenterAntKillerRTU/

At the moment (minus impeller) 3 1/2oz each...
It does matter as i have a weight limit to think about.. less weight in other items means more battery power.. ;)

How about a capulary pump? cheap easy to build and won't leak. Volume would be totally adjustable with the speed of the motor and the size of the tubing.
Just my two cents worth.

Darn, I was just going to post about this one. Very light at 1.6 oz.and low amp draw. You can up the power by substituting a 380 motor.

So I got a couple of inquires about the Sensidyne Micro Vacuum Pump that a few of us use for water cooling, etc. I checked with Skycraft Parts, and unfortunately they are still "out of stock".
I was able to find a couple of "comparative" alternatives some with the similar price of $4 that we paid at Skycraft, but others in the $49.00 range.
