to get the muzzel flash I took a pic off Google of a guy in a gun club letting fly with an M16 rifle and put the muzzleflash onto the cannon.
the sea and sky were also transposed onto the original image to hide the cafe behind, topped off with a movie style "periscope" view

One shot is not feasible...there are too many.
Here is one of my old favorites.
Below was actually 3 shots taped together from my Kodak 110 pocket camera. A Soviet cruiser off Iran during the botched hostage rescue back in the mid 70's. Notice my ships shadow on the cruiser...also notice the crew is in formation aft...they pulled a GQ and manned, then trained all there weapons on us...we did not respond. We couldn't due too much even if we wanted to...most of our systems were down after a long cruise and the parts plane was down for parts too. No wonder the rescue failed! Our military was in sad shape back then. :(

I'm going to post a non-boat picture to demonstrate how often it is better to be lucky than good.
A few weeks ago my brother and me were driving up US 41 in Dodge Co. WI. My brother was driving and I was shotgun. He glanced to the right at a farm coming up and mentioned how the scene would make a great jigsaw puzzle. I had my camera out so I swung it up and took a shot. This photo is through the passenger window of a car moving 65+ MPH (real speed withheld for 5th amendment reasons).
It is now the desktop picture on my computer at work. My boss told me to go cut down the bush in the front and take the picture again.

You said model or real. These are real, but soon to be model... I have an empty hull all set to become WAGB-10 over the next few years - the whole reason I got into ship modelling. I can't wait to one day have a fully RC model of the ship I served on to show my child (If I am lucky enough to make one - a child, that is).

How about this for a different modeling idea? To get the submarines from the shipyard in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to the ocean, they put them on a floating drydock and pushed it down the Mississippi river with the tug Kansas City. A great subject in 1:72 scale with the new Revell sub. Of course the tug had to come up river with the empty drydock to carry the next sub.
If anyone happens to have plans for that tug I am interested!
