Hey Scott,

This thread will be a great place for people to discuse the new line of Reaper Brushless Motors!!

I'll start it off with some info about the GR70cc for those that are wondering about it.

I've been wanting to get my hands on the GR70 since I saw what the GR80cc did in the Dalton at Grapevine, and when I found out that Scott from had one available, needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity to get my hands on it!!

I've mounted the GR70 in an 87" SHP, and will later mount it (or another) in the 89" 3DH Slick when they are available. Before now, I've been flying a Hacker A60-18L in my SHP, and have been happy with the setup, but I'm power hungry, and this motor looks like it will meet the need..

I've always enjoyed large/giant scale electrics, and have had an interest in electric motors since I was a kid. My first large brushless was a Hyperion 5025 that went in a 74" Yak. The A60 series motors are basically the same class of motor, just a longer can, but the GR70 takes it to a completely new level!!

The GR70 has an 80 mm can, and while it's only 20 mm wider, the motor is MUCH larger. It is shorter then the Hacker A60-Ls, but you can tell that this motor packs a lot more punch. It also weighs more then the Hackers, but then again, it really is a step up in motor class, so that's expected. I don't have any concerns that the SHP will carry the extra ounces without any problem, and with the extra nose weight, I will be able to move my packs further back where they are easier to strap in and remove (closer to the spar, not in the motor box).

After the impact of the size of this motor had set in, the next thing I noticed was the quality. This motor appears to use very high quality components, and is assembled extremely well. Large bearings, huge magnets, and two sets of wires for ESC connection with pre soldered bullets and mates. Another nice touch is the prop adaptor, which is very robust, and obviously ready for anything you can throw at it.

The magnets and their configuration is amazing. The motor has an unbelievable amount of cog. The Hackers have a nice cog as well, but the GR70 is something that has to be experienced to believe. I remember seeing Josh turn his GR80 over by hand, and the prop would "snap" like a multi cylinder engine. Easily the most cog I've seen in a motor yet.

The GR70 gives you two options for motor mounts: an alloy mount, and a larger carbon fiber mount. The carbon mount, like it's little brother, is very well built, extremely solid.. and the best part.. a perfect fit for a drop in DA50 replacement... making this motor a GREAT option for 50cc E-conversions.

I mounted the motor using the carbon fiber mount, and some large nylon standoffs. I was worried that this setup might not be rigid enough for this large of a motor, but after having completed the mount, the setup is extremely strong, and should not pose any problems. I considered rigging up a plate to mount about 1/2 way down the mount legs to give it more torsional rigidity, and might do so for piece of mind, but I don't think it's necessary after seeing the final product.

Here are some pics of the motor compared to the A60 for size. I'll post pics of the mount this evening, and some stats and some videos once I have a chance to get test the system.

I'm using TPX V2, 12S 5000 packs and will be spinning a 24x10 Xaor.

I still haven't had a chance to put a meter on it since it I need some open space, and someone to hold it, but I did get to spin it up, and so far I'm pretty impressed!!!!

I'm hoping to get out for a flight test tomorrow.

I'll post the motor mount pics when I get home tonight!

Any news about the GR70?
Do you think it works with a Sentillon 100?
When will it be available?

Thanks

would the cc 110 be enough for the gr 70? how many amps does it pull

On a 24x12 with 5S, I'm pulling about 110-115 amps.

The amp rating on the CC110 covers it, but Castle controllers have problems keeping time with large outrunners under rapid acceleration. You can make it work, but the throttle response has to be at or near the lowest setting. I tried a CC110 with mine, but wasn't happy with the laggy throttle reponse.

I've had good luck using a Spin 99 with several flights on it now, but beware!!!! you will most likely exceed the max burst rating. The Spin's max burst is 109 amps. I've compensated for the higher amps with plenty of cooling, however, having said that... I still plan to switch it out for a Spin 200 sometime this winter.

I thought I posted this in this thread, but I guess I didn't...

See link for more info on my results with the GR70 and Spin 99
