Mrs Toes and i spent the weekend at the Tacoma (Wa) Maritime Fest, camping right on the waterfront.
Of course i took one or three pics of some of the 'traffic' moving up and down the waterway.. ;)
There were a few tugs.., an LCM, a fireboat, plus lots of other interesting looking boats.
The highlight's of the weekend (for me at least) was having Crowley Guide and Tioga's captains wave as they past by.. Tioga doing some pirouets on the way back to her dock... and the ride on the LCM... :p
Here are some of the highlight pics...
First, the Fireboat..

See me? GREEN with envy.
The smal tug "Joe" reminds me of Bob Herrera's "Panama", from the teens or 20's iirc...

I know i was 'deep' in Foss territory (We were @ the 'Thea Foss Park') but the Foss tug's didnt come close enough to get any good pictures... :(
However.... :D
The two Crowley tug's, Guide and Tioga put on a SUPERB 'display' for me... :p

Nice pictures. Where are all the people? A 'festival' around here would be mobbed by thousands.

When I was stationed there in the early 60's, we were told that the water in the Tacoma Harbor is deep, with the deepest spot being 900' or so. A large, old aircraft carrier (the 2nd Hornet, perhaps?) paid a visit there, moored on the far side of the harbor. No onboard tours, but many photos were taken of her. She was pre-super carrier, pre-nuclear, but she was a large lady.

Toesup, Did you get a chance to look inside JOE? Vic Lanza and I built Robin a RC model of the JOE at 1/2" scale to thank him for his support for model boats through the Tacoma Maritime Museum and furnishing the liner for Vic's mobile pool where we demonstrate models for the museum. I built the hull and Vic built the house. Robin Paterson, owner of JOE, and a good friend is co-other of the book MOSQUITO FLEET OF SOUTH PUGET SOUND. It is another publication by Arcadia Publishing and a great read for the history of the mosquito boats of Puget Sound. He is a great historian of tugboat history in Puget Sound also. Great pictures of the tugs, especially TIOGA. My model is with the CoosBay Pilots colors and for the present I want to leave it with their colors. The Crowley colors look great also. The fireboat is a future build for me especially with the new modifications and colors. Jerryj98501
