View Full Version : Did I buy the wrong fuel?

My Duratrax Streetforce GP arrived today so I stopped by the local
hobby shop to pick up a gallon of fuel.
The guy gave me a gallon of Byron Performance Fuel. The tag says:
Premium YS
20% Nitro
20% Oil Content (propriety fortified Synthetic Lubrication Package).
The label states it's ideal for Planes, Boats and Helicopters but does
not mention cars. When I mentioned this he told me it will work fine
with a car engine.
About a week ago I read a thread in this NG about not using airplane
fuel and how one guy fried his engine after 1 liter of airplane fuel.
Visiting Byron's website doesn't give any straight answers. I see
they offer "RACE" fuel for cars but they don't mention much about this
gallon of YS fuel which is a straight synthetic.
The 20% nitro seems to be what I want but what about the oil content
being a straight synthetic at 20%?
Thanks for reading,
George

That was me.
I cant tell you why. I thought it was because of the oil content, but 20%
oil is more than any car fuel ive ever heard of.
Regardless of wether it would work or not, i personally wouldnt have taken
it. (once bitten...), but thats easy for me to say because my LHS stocks
like 5 cases of Blue Thunder 20%
In all fairness, it was a kyosho engine. Maybe it wasnt gonna last more than
a liter anyway...
I suggest you use the fuel carefully until you find a source for
car-specific fuel, then buy an airplane as well so you can use up the rest
of the first gallon. 8)

That is the fuel I use in my 4-tec, Ofna Ultra GT LX and RS4 nitro, it will
be just fine.

Mike and Jerrit,
Thanks for the reply guys. I called Byron Fuels today (number was on
the bottle) and received quite a bit of helpful information...actually
I think I learned everything I'll ever need to know about nitro :)
The guy I talked to said it wouldn't harm the engine in any way. He
did mention if I was competing in a race I'd probably want to go with
a lower content oil such as their "RACE" series with a caster blend.
For break in I think this 20% synthetic may actually be better for the
engine.
Once this gallon is gone I'll go out of my way to use their fuels in
the future. The assistance they gave me was beyond excellent.
Now if only this cold and snow would go away!
