View Full Version : stuff I just ordered...

Hi all..
Well, me and my wife went into a good hobby shop here in town.
Anyway, here's what we ended up with.
PLEASE be *brutally* honest and let us know if we made a good choice:
Helicopter--: Raptor .60 V2
Radio-------: Eclipse 7 with Heli Pack
Gyro--------: JR G550T
Simulator---: Realflight G2 simulator with interface
They were unable to tell me 100% if the Eclipse 7 radio would work with the
simulator interface (do you know??).
They are ordering the radio and simulator and it will be here within a week,
the gyro and heli will be here 3-5 weeks later.
I figure that'll give me LOTS of time and motivation to practise with the
simulator.
My main worry is that the simulator will not work with my Eclipse 7 radio.
Also, he made a big deal out of the HeliPak aspect of the Eclipse 7 -
something about ball bearings???
What is that all about?
Also, will the Realflight G2 simulator with interface actually have a Raptor
model heli in it??
Or will it simply have real life helicopters and I learn to fly one of them
and then apply it to flying the r.c. helicopter.

Hi
as for the Heli i think it's a nice choice.(got one too, very happy with it)
double check if the gyro has a heading hold mode!!! it is very easier to
learn with HH. check the servos strength/speed,a 60 heli need better servos
than the "normal"
ones.the "tail-servo" should be fast too. the radio is good enough,it has
everything that you'll need for a heli.

Don't know how you managed all this with your wife present. Well done. :-)
In my opinion you've made a good choice for a beginner package. I don't know
the radio though so I can't comment on that.
RealFlight G2 will not have a Raptor straight out of the box. It does
however have one on the Add-On CD3 but there is absolutely no need to get
that because it is a visual thing only. You can make the 'stock' helies fly
like a Raptor and if you are a beginner you will probably just use a model
as it comes and tweak it later.
Good luck in this hobby,
Tim

Hi all...
Thanks for the feedback!!
Glad to know that I didn't "fall" for a quick hobby-shop employee, and/or
buy the wrong thing.

Don't ignore this! A high speed tail servo will bring out the best in your
gyro so make sure you have something like the Futaba 9253 on the tail
(running off your Gyro).
http://www.rchelicopters.org/showdown.aspx has lots of helpful reviews on
your kit.

The simulator will NOT work with the Hitec Eclipse 7. I know because I owned
the RFG2 and returned it for exactly that reason. Returning is a _major_
hassle. They don't want it back. If the only reason you bought the RFG2 is
to be able to fly the simulator using your Hitec Eclipse 7 then stop,
cancel, or refuse the shipment before you get it.
It took about 3 layers of tech support before they admitted their simulator
doesn't with all Hitec radios - as they advertised.

You have to buy the add-on for this. I think it's add-on #3. Well worth the
$29 extra. But it won't run with the Eclipse 7.

Wherefore art thou?
Your path to success will be much easier with help. Find a club or at
least a mentor nearby. If you're near SEQ/ NNSW then I may be able to
help.

thanks for the tip, Android.
I phoned the hobby shop up and cancelled the simulator from them.
They wanted to know why, and I faxed them your post!! :)
I *have* to get the simulator...I looked up the company online
and will ring them in the morning. Maybe just get the software that
has the controller that looks like a radio??
Thanks again....

I think that *is* RealFlight G2 (the Interlink dummy-radio which doubles as
an interface to your existing TX)

The new RFG2 versions (I thought all of them...) have a USB "interlink
transmitter" box that comes with them so you don't have to use your own
radio. I personally like it very much! You don't even need to worry about
your own Tx's compatablility

Hi Joel
Contact Melbourne Heli Club and ask for Andrew Donaldson.
Nice Guy and pretty good flyer.
Or, on May 1 and 2, come to Wagga Wagga to the fourth Heli Heatwave. We will
all be there.
Biggest fun fly in Australia!!!!!!!
Or go to http://www.netspace.net.au/~abcd/mrchc/
