Hi!
I bought this J-3 cub today and just wondered... Is it ok to cut 1/3 of the aileron to use it as flaps?

and some more:

I think that the ailerons on this model looks more than long enough as it is, but maby i am wrong?
It is supposed to have one aileronservo in each wing.
maby i could put in one servo extra in each wing to use a part of the aileron as separate flaps.
I can of course mix all four servos together to act as ailerons until i need flaps, but i dont ike programming to much :p

If you have the equipment to mix a four servo wing (usually requires a high end Tx) I would recommend making the flaps larger than that, and mix in flaps with ailerons.

If you bottom hinge the flaps you can use 90* flaps for landing, too. 90 degree flaps are amazingly effective at slowing down an airplane. Some fast sailplanes with large flaps can land right out of a dive with brakes.

Thanks for your fast replies!!
I dont know if my futaba 9c can do this mix, i have to read the manual to find out.
i'll give it a try with bottom hinged flaps.

Yes the Futaba can do it, although you may need to put it in glider mode or some such nonsense.
