There are several threads about the ongoing activity at a number of lakes, ponds ect. This being the case and being of doubtfull sanity I and my cohorts in crime that is to say, Graphixman and my Nephew Chuck and I have several pictures taken at our pond. OK we gotta bunch of pictures. Our pond is next to a Sam's club so we have plenty of parking. Chuck's got a little cart he can bring his stuff to the pond(he lives close by) Also he can bring his ''little yellow rubber boat'' to retrieve boats with. Fred has a number of pictures that he will post and Chuck has others as well. We shall endever to entertain you with our adventures at the pond. This first group are my boats, hey I'm writing this so my boats go first! :D

Charlie,
Coming from another Charlie/Chuck (my family prefers the former), I appreciate you putting up the thread & sharing photos of your fleet. For me, its these shared experiences that I enjoy most about this hobby.
We were just added to MBM's Worldwide Mayhem Map (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=115439289302912786204.000455fd039eb4a7d09fe) that shows the location of model boating clubs & motley groups such as ours around the globe. Its open collaboration on Google Maps so anyone can add/edit their club location, info & link. They don't have any US locations so feel free to be the first. :D

Sheet boats are a bit ackward to launch there but if someone came with one we would find a way. It does drop off fairly quickly from our launch point.
Umi,usually late Oct,early Nov. but it gets cold enough to be uncomfortable around then anyway.

Charlie,
Assuming you have deep water right at the edge, you may try what we do when sailing off the deck at Xanadu's lake. We launch over the deck railings by simply grabbing hold of the mast & lowering the boats into the water. Retrieval is just as easy once you've brought the boat alongside the dock. Just ensure that your shrouds are nice & tight before attempting ;)

Hi all, Well Graphixman came down for a model visit about a week or so ago. He brought his Midwest ''Liberty Tug''. As usual we did a bunch of talking, went up to the R/C Buyers Wharehouse to sniff at the new stuff. He let ''SAM'' climb all over him. It was all fine and dandy but I've got to tell you that, well, let me show you.

STEAMBOAT, The model is a Dumas ''Rangely'',a kit no longer produced. You might find one still in a hobby shop or on E-bay. Both my Nephew and I have one. Fairly easy to build and runs very well. It has a ''sintra'' cabin which was the first time I had used the stuff. That too was easy to work with. The boat looks great on the water.

What motors did he use? I hope the gear train holds up. :p
charlie eaton
Jul 26, 2009, 10:41 AM
Tom, He used a pair of aftermarket 2350kv 11w motors from ebay ($50 buck knockoffs) intended as a conversion for the Super Vee installed in the EP-1 outboards. The o/b's are metal case, heavy duty bearings lubed with high temp plumbers gease. Chuck said that the batteries were close to dead when he took the picture so the boat wasn't up to full speed. I'll try to get one of it wide open. He uses the stock Aquacraft Super Vee ESC's. Also a silicon sleeve type water jacket instead of the tube type.

Oh yes, mine is named the ''ASSAMDRAGON''
Hi Charlie:
I see that you're from NE Mass... Thought you might like to know there was a REAL "Assamdragon" boat moored on the Parker River in Newbury back in the 60's & 70's.
If I remember right, she was a nice 32 to 36 foot wooden cabin cruiser (Egg Harbor maybe?) with a flying bridge and white hull. She was owned by the Sheppard family and was moored down river by the Oldtown Country Club.
Rumor has it the boat got its name by the owner hitting the mud sandbars way down river -- more than a few times!!!
Nice boat pix!

OLD NO 7, I got that name from a boat sitting on a cradle in New Castle NH. I saw it every time I went to or from the Portsmouth Life Boat Station there. It was a yawl painted black with a dragon on the stern and that name. I don't remember seeing the boat you mention as I was working in D.C. at the time. I also need to change the second ''A'' to ''E'' OOOPS! I thought it was an appropriate name as the model tends to ''squat'' as it goes faster. Kind of dragging it's posterior you might say. :D

Yesterday Chuck and I got to the pond, it has been either rain or wind or both since May. We finally got a good day to go run a couple of boats. Chuck had his deep vee outboard and I had the Novi and the Crash boat. Other than a few things going wrong it was a good time. For instance one of the 2 outboards on his go fast quit working and then there was the battery failure in the middle of the pond for my Crash boat. Ah also the clivis on the rudder servo came open on the Novi and and on a later run it took water over the stern. Other than that it was a great day. Unfortunately Fred had to work.

Mr Eaton which Crashboat model is that??? Any more photos?? Jim those are the plans by Glynn Guest. It's a semi scale of the 63'er, I did a build tread on it in scale boats. I made some changes so it's a cross between the 65 and the 85 foot boats. It a very simple hull to build.

Went out to the pond today. I took my Babcock north sea trawler and Chuck took his big deepV outboard. He took the pictures and will post them soon. It was a good day and we had a number of runs with both boats. The first one with mine showed I needed to take some ballast out at the stern. It took on some water because it is way over powered and sat to low back aft. It runs just fine kind of scale on just the trim lever. I may put a smaller motor in it as the HT-600 is way to much.
Chuck had a good day with the big outboard and made 6 runs with it. It is quite fast. He took some videos of both and as soon as he figures out how to do it via utube he'll have them on this thread.
