View Full Version : Discussion $3.99 shipping is a bust!

I have placed orders with Hobby Lobby that qualify for the 4x4x4 reduced shipping on 3 different occasions and each time I have had to chase them to get the $3.99 shipping charge. They have no problem taking the $8.99 shipping charge from my bank account, but why do I have to sit on the phone every time to get my $5 back? Then it will take a week or so to actually see the refund! :censored: Should this not have been taken care of at time of shipping or invoicing?
Anyone else have this problem with them?

I am not familiar with this shipping option but HL has a kind of weird website. On a lot of things you have to actually push a button to get something. They recently had a Labor Day weekend special of free shipping for an order over $50. You did not automatically get the free shipping unless you hit the link on the free shipping announcement email then hit the "select free shipping" button. Unfortunately I placed an order on Friday and was not aware of the free shipping until the next day. I think that is a bit of a screwy system. This may not pertain to your situation but just thought that I would mention it.

I did select the free shipping button and still was charged shipping, I notified them and still have not received the credit.

Please send me a PM with your contact details. I will make sure this is taken care of. I'm very sorry we held you up from flying this weekend. This systems conversion is the toughest thing we've had to go through in a long while. Once we get all the bugs worked out, we'll be shipping faster than ever before with much greater accuracy. We're almost there. I'll be in touch tomorrow once you provide your contact information.

Well Don, I'm glad to see that they got your problem worked out. Guess I will find some other on-line store to do my shopping.

Actually I did get a replacement fuselage sent but it was damagesd as well. Best I can tell is the guy packing it is crushing the end when they stuff in the filler brown paper to fill the end of the box. It was an easy fix so I am using it. As far as the shipping cost, I would rather they keep the $8.99 and just send me the missing receiver and battey hatch covers that are not included when you buy the front and rear fuselage seperately.

No kidding, that has been my case also. One time I order a BL motor and a prop adapter, the motor was BOed and they sent the $3 dollar adapter and charged me 8.99. I love the checkout when it says that if your item is smaller than 4x4x4 we'll ship it for 3.99, yeah believe that and I have got a bridge to sell ya.

That 4x4x4 $3.99 shipping is a scam IMHO. The last order I placed was for 3 plastic latches that are about 1" long and 3/8" wide each. They could have put them in an envelope and mailed them for 41 cents instead of the $8.99 I got nailed with again!
Funny how tomme21 did not even bother to address this problem.

Tomme21 was just copy/pasting what hobby-lobby's Jason Cole said in another thread, check the link he posted.

Let me give an actual Hobby-Lobby reply:
First of all, my apologies to anyone that was charged incorrectly. We will immediately fix this for you if we haven't already.
As for why we've made this mistakes - we have gone through our entire inventory this summer and measured everything. We are plugging this information into the computer system to automatically apply the discounted shipped wherever possible. We missed a few dimensions and did not catch this until a few packages have already gone out.
We are actually trying to expand the number of items we can offer this reduced shipping rate. Shipping costs have grown across the board - all of us benefit if we can reduce the costs to you.
Not only is this embarrassing and cost you more it costs us more money as well to ship - and the loss of confidence is us cannot be made up with any sort of refund.
We don't take this lightly and are working hard to eliminate any loopholes. We always appreciate any feedback - good or bad. We are trying to be the best company possible for your needs.
Thanks, Jay

I understand that shipping costs have risen, however the difference of $3.99 compared to $8.99 is a fair bit. For someone like myself, every time I place an order that qualifies for the cheaper shipping, but has been charged the higher fee....it is becoming more than just an inconvenience to routinely having to call to get a refund.
Jay, I can understand if this happens once in a while. However this has occurred 3 times in the course of a year to me alone! Am I the only one who had the "few packages go out" to?
BTW, I'm sorry tomme21, I misread your post :o

If you don't mind, please PM me with your contact info. I will look up what products you've ordered to check the system and make sure we prevent problems going forward. We want to learn from our mistakes.
Thanks in advance, Jay

I just received and order place last weekend for a small AXI motor mount/prop adapter and a 2oz bottle of foam safe glue. I've got one of the 4x4x4 boxes from a prior purchase and the two items EASILY fit in that box, but they were shipped in a box that was closer to 4x4x8. I was also expecting to see the small box flat charge, but instead paid the $8.99
I'll PM Jay with my order # & personal info.
Thanks, Raul

HL: the best-it's just that simple. If "they" err, "they" fix it.
