Hi,

I have not yet been out to the VOA field but in talking with a colleague who lives nearby, I hear that there is some kind of mall being built on (near?) the VOA site. Is the site secure from commercial expansion?

Also, a while ago there was some discussion of an sports facility in West Chester being available for indoor flying. Did anything come of that?

Hi Vilas,

West Chester sold some of the VOA park and they are pretty far along on building a Target store now. But our field in the north side of the park is still the same and we are in talks with the VOA park service to try to get a more permanent flying area with signs etc. This will be a silent flight only type of field, so gliders and electric planes would be allowed. I have not heard anything more on the indoor flying site.

Vilas,

Here is a picture of the field, you can find directions to our field on our web site: http://www.voaflyers.org

Vilas,
We hope that you can come and join us some Saturday. We usually fly all Winter, but this year the weather has been particularly unfriendly for flying.

As Marcel stated, the construction is on the opposite side of the park from where we fly, so it's no problem except that the entrance road seems to change location from time to time. The area that we fly in is owned by West Chester Township and is not slated to be developed any time soon. The area where the retail stores are being built was sold to developers to pay for the removal of the VOA antennas. Although I always worry that the politicians that make decisions about these matters aren't happy unless "improvements" are made to green space, for now the park is plenty big for all uses. Our club just secured a permit to use the space for another year, and we will be putting up signs and a permanent frequency control board this Spring.

We are still trying to get access to an indoor site in Mason. Check back in a few weeks for progress (hopefully).

Regards,
Don

Don, Likewise, it was great to you all. Unfortunately, I can't go today but will be there next week.

I'll see if I can make it there tomorrow too.

Don:
I have been meaning to come out to VOA, I'm a longtime "Gas" plane flyer but have decided to go all Electric & my gas stuff is going to Ebay. Can I just come out and fly some Saturday or do I have to join first? Does you field have any tables or Porto facilities?:p

Mike,

I am speaking for Don, hope he doesn't mind, you can come and fly, you don't have to join, it's purely voluntary. The VOA park does provide modern facilities and we used to have a table, not sure if it is still there. Hope to see you Sat.

The table as well as the "port-a-potty" are still at our regular location.

Mike,
As Marcel stated, membership is optional as we are flying in a public park. Due to the ground conditions, we have been flying in a temporary area in the park which does have port-a-potties, but is really just a collection of soccer fields/baseball diamonds. We will move to our regular location in a few weeks when the ground dries out a little.

I expect we will have good turn-outs this year - I believe we had 20+ pilots last Saturday, flying everything from scale slow-flyers to 100 inch gliders and 16 cell sport planes. Compared to most AMA clubs, our club is very low-key and informal and we welcome visitors whether or not they are interested in joining. Our only rule is silent flight only - no IC planes. I hope you can come and join us.

Don:
Thanks, I may stop out & take a look at the place, can you fly any days besides Saturday?
I normally fly at Joyce park & Yes, I flew both on Saturday & Monday, both steller days for flying! Right now I'm flying a Hitec Sky Scooter, A GWS Slow Stick, GWS P51D Mustang, GWS Tiger Moth & a Mountain Models Duskstik. Sometimes I bring One or Two, sometimes I bring them all.:D

Hope to see you there.

As far as I know, you can fly any day of the week you want.
I have done so, at least.

I hope I didn't break any rules.....
