I have been bequeathed a scratch built 4ft long tug, with two, 2 inch
contra-rotating screws set in cowlings (which naturally provide the
steerage).

Problem is, having calculated the ballast required for the boat it weighs in
at just under 30kg.

Given that the prop sizes are not alterable, can anyone give me an idea as
to a best bet motor definition I can use to power it authentically, probably
at 12v.

I live in the UK

Ta,

Paul

I'm sure Mike Mayhew in Clevedon, UK, could answer that one.

I salvaged some great motors from automobiles. The units that open and
close the windows are very good. You will have to do some modifying.
There are others such as windshield wipers , seat adjusters etc.

Wind shield wiper and Heater blower motors are designed to run continuesly.
Power windo motors are strong but short run time.

Check surplus stores and websites like "all electronics".

I prefer "Pittman" motors when I can find them. They are often less than 25 bucks, and are rated from 12 to 24 volts.
These drive my 56" destroyer, and 68" light cruiser at very high speeds. The cruiser weighs something like 35 pounds to the waterline.

If you know someone that works at a hospital, have them check with the maintanece department to see if they have pulled amd replaced any motors out of centifuges. Thats where my last three "Pittman" motors came from.
One had a bad bearing and is spare parts, but
They were Free.:D

ow.
They are strong and well built motors.
