View Full Version : Question How to add instability to FMS helicopters?

Hi
I've been experimenting for the last few weeks with FMS. I've had a great time downloading scenery, planes and helicopters.
But there is one glaring problem with the realism which is especially obvious with the helicopter models. If I gently take-off then the helo will hover in the exact same position even when I have my hands off the controls. It will in fact stay in this position for ever even if I add some rudder to make the helicopter spin.
Obviously this is terribly unrealistic. Helicopters never stay in the same position but are unstable and tend to tip in one direction. That's the behaviour I was hoping that FMS would model.
I tried adding wind and gusts but that just makes the aircraft shoot up and down. I want the aircraft to get tipped.
Is there any way to add instability to the helicopters? This would fix an otherwise excellent simulator experience!
thanks

well...When I trun off the fixed camera on mine it never stays at the
center of the screen for me.lol
I'm not really sure what you're talking about, becuase I can't hold it
stationary even if i tried. It constantly drifts on me. When I
practice hovering....Hey that's why i use it..to practice hovering.
I dunno..I edited the par file and the v2 in FMS flies pretty darn close
to my real V2.
Some par files are in greek but some are in english.
i just copy and paste the english version into a model I wanna mess with.
There's even a Par edit addon in 2 8.5 version.
Heck i can even fly as if I'm a sphere in photolistic mode
if i wanted to...That means I can do photolistic modes
for slope sceneries too.
BTW...trun off the fog while in photolistic sceneries.
Zoom out to edge of the circle if you use a Reflex pano.
This will give you proper zoom
There's the thermal option and the wind option.
Are you sure you adjusted the wind option ?
There's even the sim speed option.

The helicopter is on the ground, and I increase the throttle. THe helo lifts perfectly into the sky and will hover indefinitely in the same orientation until I reduce the throttle and do a perfect landing in the same spot!
Using the keyboard you can just press 'G' to increase throttle and lift off then 'B' when you've had enough and want to do the perfect landing. Too easy..
(I have used e-sky usb controller and the models were also too stable)
Which is the model that constantly drifts on you? Some helo models drift a bit on me too but I've flown real model helicopters and they are always trying to tip over, they don't drift.
I have wind speed 1 and gust 1, thermal options at the default.

All the models drift on me...I told you how to set it up.
You're trying to simulate how a sim feels on your TX
by using a keyboard ?.....what da ?
Try loading 2.8 version so you trun off the FIX camera
and go photolistic.
Use NOTPAD to adjust the .par files.
Try balancing your rotor blades or fix ur paddles on ur real heli if it's always trying to tip over. Are you sure the main shaft is not bent on ur heli?
Mine dosn't want to tip over all the time...that would be crazy.
It'll drift not perfectly level..but that's how my fms dose it
and the other sims too.
You can even adjust the tail to have it vibrate or not hold the
heading as good in fms. Adjust the gain for the gyro.
Move the CG...i dunno
Get the heli-x then...you'll still have to adjust camera
The samething with aerofly and Realflight.
You still have to do exaclty the samething with these other sims.
Whatever how the menu table is set up.
ahhhh !!!! i need to practice :p
It looks just like the first time I hovered my V2...
all over the place. I wacked the crap out of blades...just like that too.lol
It's FMS..oki doki

I just don't get it. I have tried several FMS helicopters (Bell 206, Blade CP, Concept 60, SA635 dolphin etc). Using the esky controller I can gently increase throttle/collective until the model just takes off. It will then hover happily with my hands off the controls. I can even go get a cup of tea and when I return to the computer it's still flying.
now i wasn't able to do that with my old gas powered model chopper.

lmao at the tea break , it takes one of the other more expensive sims to have instability with heli's . i'd love to have to fight it to hover as well and not just with wind settings or camera settings in fms, even 3d is easy for a beginner on it imo

Whats your piont ?
Go buy another sim then..if think it's a piece of doo doo.....
Obviousely you didn't open the .par file with NOTEPAD.
I didn't even have the wind turn on in the stupid vedio.
I have other sims too...I know what they're capiable of.
yeah sure..you mean like these sim ?
BTW The G4 dosn't have the redbull edge with a flame job
or that slope scenery.
if you say fms dosn't have spining rotors, moveable cotrol suface or smokes...I'd buy that,
but as far as physic or how models feel....they're all the same.
I luagh at what people say or claim too. :p

Flyx, I'm not trying to make a point, my original post was a simple question, how to add some unstability to the choppers.
I have messed around with the par files, but only made some basic changes. I found the sim to be great in all other respects but can't live with those toy choppers.
now evaluating the commercial simulators...
thanks for all the participation and input on the thread!
