I will tell you what we are tying to do and you can tell me if I am crazy or not….

First… We (My self and students) designed, built and deployed an autonomous survey boat.

It’s a 14 foot long canoe, electric propulsion, batteries, generator capable of 24 hour, non stop survey. Has done hundreds of miles of survey lines..

The boat autopilot was written in VisualBasic 6.0 and uses GPS, magnetic compass and uses a few PID to tune the controllers.

I have lots experience with RC from turbines to electrics so I want to modify the Boat program to fly an electric airplane.

I can get a small computer that will fit in the plane that runs VisualBasic with many comm Ports.. no problem..

What I want is A device that outputs attitude

What is the next step ?

Thanks for your help

checkout our device, the techFX Motion IMU 6 DOF.

you can use it to collect the data from the 6 DOF sensors and attach it to your current system using USB, I2C, SPI, UART, or Xbee interfaces.

you can also connect an SCP1000 baro sensor as use it for baro, temp, and altimeter readings.

http://www.TheSiliconHorizon.com

we have the cheapest IMU on the market right now!!

:) :)

drop us a line at support@thesiliconhorizon.com

well what is your current setup?

you say you already have an embedded computer?

so i imagine you can use the USB port interface.

there is also the SPI bus which may be better suited for this task and leave the USB port open for other things.
