I belong to a electric only/ sailplane club and was asked yesterday if I could put together a tow plane as a back up to our clubs. I was wondering if the hanger 9 40 cub would work using a power 60(can this fit under the cowl), and 6s 4200(two 3's in series) would be a viable option for towing up to a 4m sailplane.

Hi,
The power 60 would fit in the cowl but I don't know if you could have clearance for the 16 inch prop it would take. I have seen aero tow done with the piper pawnee and a power 60 and it worked out very well with a 100 in scale sail plane.

The BL 60 will fit w/o issue; bolots to the same pattern -- just need shorter the stand-offs by about 1/4" (62 - 55 = 7mm).
6S will give tons of power too.
Not sure of a spot/hrad point for a tow hook though?
BOL!

I fly my previuos generation H9 80" Cubd w/16" and BL 60 under the hood -- have a new 1/4 too!

good to know I am not way off on my idea--I would make a hard point right behind where the wings mount on the top of the fues.
I had originally thought about the pawnee but it is not available for another month at least.
I would think I would have more groung clearance for a 16" wheel on the cub than on the pawnee? I could also put on bigger balloon tires to make up some height as well.

800mZero, I am about to do my first big glo to electric conversion, been flying electric for 2 years and have many big 3 cell batteries.
I have my big motor and esc, a turnigy700kv 720watt, 60 amp esc and 2 new loongmax 25 2200 batteries.
How do I turn these into a 6 cell setup, or to be correct, run them in series. Do I simply make a connecter with deans plugs to join the 2 batteries to 1 plug or is it much more complicated than that.
Thankyou to anyone who can shed some light on this topic for me.
The reason im in this thread is I hope to get my hands on a 5 foot span Piper
