as you can see in the above pic i had some underspray on the insignia. i havent flown the thing yet. i am waiting till i get better
at trimming.

Hi Billy,
Nice looking plane. that lozenge used to take forever, i'm
hoping you printed it out on your printer?
here's an easy way to make german crosses.
i spray white tissue with a mist of floquil or polly-s paint,
then mask it with scotch 411 tape. i then paint the black and use
scissors or an exacto to cut out the crosses, leaving enough white
for my border. the 411 tape is great, it leaves nice crisp edges
and doesn't stick hard to paint or tissue. an alternative is to use
black tissue on the painted white tissue. i like that when i'm trying
to keep my planes translucent.
i built the sterling d-8 when i was a kid. i couldn't get it to
fly so since then i've stayed away from fokkers. i do get tired of
being beaten by d-7's though!

the lozenges were done by hand with a magic marker
it really only took a couple of hours i traced a pattern that was printed on a peice of paper then colored them in.
thanks for all the info on doing german crosses.
the prop is just the scale prop from the plans. this plane seems like it will fly really good from the little bit i have glided it.
i used painted tissue to put the markings on my junkers d-9 a friend helped me paint some camo on it and i gave it away i cant find the pics with the camo and crosses but heres a bare pic of it.

i took a pic of the prop to sneek in a pic from arizona can you guess where its at?

i spent more time procastinating about the wing struts on the d8 than building the rest of the plane. the wing struts were the hardest part to build i think it was just a mental barrier cause it went pretty quick after i finally started into it.

if you notice on the engine i was simulating bent cooling fins.
ha kust kidding i done the fins real quick well i done a few slow and finished upquick had planned on redoing it someday and touching up the crosses.

I seen a real d8 on wings and the losenge was more grayish looking with dark connected streaks of losenge running vertical.
anyone got pics or patterns of this knid of losenge pattern?
The other markings were just as I have them minus trhe arrow.

Try and keep the weight high up in the fuselage. Otherwise the fuselage acts like a pendulm and either stops the plane banking into a turn or makes it swing about after a turn

Mark,thanks for the good advice.Keeping the weights 'centered' both horizontally and vertically (low gyradius) is always kept in mind when I build any plane.I'm temorarily halting progress on the D8 so I can get on with 'cookup' and postal stuff.I'll keep you informed.

Well I tried flying the plane again. I fixed the front so I could fit a
3/32" loop of rubber through. before I just had it drilled for the peck 1/32" shaft thrust button now I cut out a square through the first layer of wood on the cowl and then made a smaller hole through the second layer of cowl wood. I made a makeshift stooge and tried with the peck grey 5.75" prop and a loop of 3/32" sport rubber. It flew good straight but didnt want to climb very much. I bent in a little left rudder and the thing wouldnt fly right anymore. Guess I'll have to add some trim tab to the wing or stab. For me it seems easier to build the planes than to fly them. It'll take a lot of practice I guess. First I tried with a homemade prop similar to the Ikara butterfly prop The Homemade prop doesnt work as good as the Peck prop. I even tried with different pitches. The prop works fine for my minnow but the minnow is much lighter than the D-8.

Dave, don't quit on that Sterling Fokker D8, Mine flew pretty well straight off the board with a little nose weight. It met an untimely death when my wife dropped a large platter on it....sigh.

I will have to make another one.

Billy, hang in there. I think you are making some terrific models.
I bet someone here can help you get in the air.

A couple pic's of my recently completed ezbuilt fokker D8....first one I have built...seems it may fly a bit???? was kinda put off at first as how to mount the wing but with a lil work I think I may have figured it out

gotta love the lozenge. not many will attempt it. i'm covering a 55" rc monster right now and it'll have the 5 colors too.
BTW, the tissue throught the printer works great
