I am looking to get a receiver for my Ace Nautical Commander.
Some one want to explain to me the following regarding radio systems:
Negative shift
Positive shift
Dual Conversion
Single Conversion.

Negative Shift - FM carrier is normally at the higher frequency, goes low to send the pulse to the receiver. More common method, as it is used by Futaba, GWS, Hitec, etc.

Positive Shift - FM carrier is normally at the lower frequency, goes high to pulse. Used by JR.

Dual Conversion - a method of obtaining a cleaner signal in the receiver, giving better rejection of interference. Used by most "better" receivers (this is a property ONLY of receivers - there's no such thing as a "dual conversion transmitter").

Single Conversion - Typically gives lower rejection of noise, but with good components the performance can equal a dual conversion receiver (ie, JR). This is also a property only of receivers - there are no "single-conversion transmitters."

Both single and dual conversion describe how the same signal is processed in the receiver.

From what I recall, the Ace transmitters (FM) used negative shift. They were designed by Fred Marks. If you have a deep technical question, you could try contacting FMA Direct. You should be able to use a standard Futaba-compatible receiver on the appropriate frequency without a problem.

MAKE SURE YOUR TRANSMITTER IS 1991 LEGAL!

Thank you Andy.
What is 1991 legal?

Tachi,

No worries on the model 91, it was the shift from
wide band to narrow band transmitters and recievers.
Your equipment was purchased new some time after 1995
