This is a great fly-in for a great cause. The RCRC Fly For Tots will be donating 100% of our proceeds to the Victory Junction Gang Camp again in 2008.
The Victory Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.
This fly-in was able to raise $17,000.00 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp in 2007.
You can check it all out here:

Holy Cow, it's that time of year already folks! The RDRC 18th annual "Fly for Tots" is jussssssssst around the corner, and it's already looking to be bigger than last year. For those not familiar with the RDRC FFT, this is an annual event held by the Raleigh Durham Radio Control club. It's main purpose is to raise as much money as possible in a two day period, and donate ALL of our income to a selected charity. Last year we raised a whop'n $17,000 in two days, through raffle ticket sales, food sales, pilot registration, and donations given by spectators. 100% of the proceeds were given to the "Victory Junction Camp" located in the heart of NASCAR country. This year, the "VJC" has been chosen again, and we're really excited about helping this really special group of folks. If youre not familiar with what they do, you can find lots of information about them and all of the RDRC FFT details on our new web-site at www.flyfortots.com
On this site, you can get detailed info about "VJC", our biggest money maker,"raffle ticket" sales, pre-registration for the event, hotels, directions to the event, time's ,dates, demo's, the 18 year history of the event, pictures and video from past FFT events, and much more. You also get a list of our many great sponsors, and you can even purchase advance sales raffle tickets for the event. You can win goodies and support the event, even if you can't make it to the show!
Oh, and lets not forget the FUN we all have at FFT. This is one of the few events around that you can fly ANYTHING! In fact, not only has this grown to be the largest event in NC, it is the largest _FLY ANYTHING_ event in the USA!
So be sure and check out our new FFT web-site, and our club web site at www.RD-RC.org as well. Better yet, start making plans to attend the event... NOW!

Before the thread gets rolling I want to send out a HUGE thank you to my friend, Jim T., and the entire RCGroups.com crew. Over the last few years this event has grown leaps and bounds. It is getting up there with events like SEFF, D.O.G.S. and others. This year will put us in a new category and we are extremely excited about this. Over these last few years Jim has given us a platform to further develop this event into what it is today and without his, RCGroups and countless other members of our vast modeling community's faith and support.....it simply would not be the Fly For Tots we have come to anticipate every year.
Thank you Jim T., Jim B. and everyone here at RCGroups.com!

If anyone wants to help support this event and cannot make the trip to enjoy the flying with us, I politely encourage you to make this image your avatar until the event arrives. Everyones support is tremendously appreciated! The cause you will be supporting is incredible. I also encourage you to go to http://www.flyfortots.com and watch the video about the Victory Junction Gang on the front page.

FFT website test.... please have a look at flyfortots.com, and see if thinks look "right" to y'all. One of the guys mentioned the header looked compressed over to the LH side of the page on their browser. If you see formatting issues, please tell us what browser you're using (Firefox, IE, etc) and what your monitor resolution is. We've been testing it on several computers/resolutions here, and can't find the problem.

Attention EVERYONE who intends to register for the Fly For Tots online:
Please try to have your registration in by Wednesday of this week, September 17th, 2008. This will give me plenty of time to properly assemble all Pilot Packages and have them ready for everyone on Saturday morning. If you plan on getting T-Shirts or other merch early enough to be wearing it before you get to the event, please have those orders in by Monday morning, so I can coordinate with the printer and have them shipping out on Monday afternoon.

Last year's Film Fest and the live music were a hoot. People were also night-flying while that was going on. It was rather humorous when, during a lull in the music, you could distinctly hear a foamy impacting the runway. "Whirrrr -- SPLAT". :) I've got my Hoverdisk ready (let me know if Robert Vess shows up, though).

Don't know the final tally yet, but the goal was $20,000 and at last count it was over $25,000.
The guy that won the grand prize was a local guy that had been out of the hobby for the last 15 years or so, and was just getting back into flying. And, to answer the other question, he was not present. We called him to let him know he had won. The non-present winners of any of the other prizes will be contacted.

What a great event!!! Even with over 200 pilots, the wait for a pilot station was never longer than 3-4 minutes. The entire RDRC crew were amazing, and of course the field was in great shape...well, all except for one little patch of grass, but they had a very good reason to leave that patch alone...
There was also alot of cooperation between pilots...anytime you can get lightweight slowflyers in the air with 40% 3d ships, 1/4 scale warbirds, and a 50% cub all at the same time, and not have any problems, well, you know you are at a first class event.
Can't wait to hear the total raised for Victory Junction, and I am looking forward to next year!

It was a total blast, what a great event! There's no place else that you can have a great time, raise lots of money for a good cause, and go home with loot. I won ANOTHER .60-sized warbird, and the timing couldn't be better since I destroyed my .60-sized Spitfire.
The highlight of the day had to be the full-scale pilot in his Giles 202 slipstreaming over RDRC at 10 ft. over the runway - breathtaking!!
Thanks again to the tireless work of all involved RDRC members, it was a fantasic two days!

Bah, it was my mistake. I came around for a fast pass, and a giant-scale 3D pilot popped up into what I thought was my flight path (saw it out of the corner of my eye). Made the mistake of taking my eyes off my plane, and when I returned to it, it was inverted in a nose-down attitute - I think I kept up elevator/right aileron pressure on the stick while my eyes were off the plane as I was in a turn when I took my eyes off it. No time to do much of anything but watch it go in at a pretty high rate of speed.
Airframe is a total loss... completely crushed up to the canopy. Also snapped the steel shaft of the Hacker A50, bent the motor mount into quite an unusual angle, wrecked the 70-amp Jeti ESC, and crushed the end of the 5s 5000 pack. A very expensive crash. All is not lost, however, as the FASST rx and servos are fine, which will drop into the Mustang very nicely. :D

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the show. People are still just catching on to the fact that by the time they get home from a FlightPass covered event there are already DOZENS of HD films posted. We had 30 films up the first night even with showing the Film Fest until 10 PM Saturday night! We are crazy busy at these events, but my passion for RC filming keeps me going and it feels more like fun that work. There are 59 FFT films up so far and I haven't even started editing Sunday afternoon's stuff. The full scale Giles, the second outlaw invasion, Flight of the Pig and Fly Low Girl's Helicopter adventure are all still to come. And if you haven't seen "Lovely Jane" yet from the film fest you are missing out. One of our best films ever if I do say so myself. See it in the Film Fest gallery:

Great event as always Chris. This event pulled in slot of flyers and spectators. I brought my daughter that is 3 with me. She loved the Robinson helicopters that were giving rides. Every 15 minutes when they would come back in to land she would say , "look dad more heicopters!". Next year she is going on a ride.
See you all next year.

2008 RDRC Fly-for-Tots OUTLAW INVASION
Well, the Outlaw Invasion at the 2008 RDRC Fly-for-Tots event in Raleigh, NC was a huge hit! Team Outlaw pilots Larry Lewis, Jay Benson, and I were joined by 15 other Outlaw drivers on Saturday for a wild and fun flight! We behaved a little better than normal for this particular flight in the interest of crowd safety so although there were a couple of casualties, there were no midairs. And the spectators loved it! So the new record for Outlaws being flown at once now stands at 18. And records are made to be broken!
Thanks goes out to Chris Hinson at Extreme Flight RC for providing the cool commemorative T-shirts for all the participants. Good stuff!
Here's the list of participants as pictured in the first photo (click on any picture twice after it loads for max resolution):
Front Row (L to R) : Michael Hollowell, Chris Mulcahy, Larry Lewis, Jay Benson, Steve Miller, Wes Ryman, Andy Thompson, Nate Quan, Tee James
Back Row (L to R) : Elton Fairless, Dustin Hedrick, Josh Matthews, Robert Vess, David Hayes, Nelson Phillips, Nick Baxter, Josh Bunn, Kenny Tillman
Be ready when you are called upon for the next "wave"........
