Hello all,
A friend of mine is considering an outrunner for an airframe that "may" have been designed for a g-38. As far as I can tell, the airframe is essentially a Rutan EZ minus the canopy - so we're probably looking at sport performance as opposed to trainer or crazy aerobatic.
We're looking for suggestions of motors to consider as a starting point to do some calculations.
thanks a bunch!

power 90? or the power 110, do you know how much the plane weighs all up with a G38?

Airframe weight (minus r/c gear, batts, motor) = 20.75 lbs.
Main wing span = 72"
Main wing Area = 2394 sq. in.
Canard span = 14"
Canard area = 770 sq. in.
Total area = 3164 sq. in.

I'd say you'd need an AXI 5345 and 12s lipos. The 5345 weighs 31.5 ounces. You're probably looking at 3.5 lbs for the batteries and another 2 lbs for the motor so the total weight RTF would be around 29 lbs. If you want sport performance, you'll need at least 100watts/lb. So 2900 watts would suffice. The 5345 will have no trouble delivering that amount of power.

or, for the same size/weight, but in purple, the Hacker A60L will do a fine job. Regardless of their ratings, many of us are running the 18L on 12S at 4000+ watts and it's bulletproof. I know of some using the 16L at just over 5000watts on 12S, but you'd probably have to keep an eye on temperature.
