get a cheap RTR electric, that way if it gets corroded ya've lost only a few dollars.

I presume you will be on the inland side and not the ocean side, how about making your own boogie board boat. you could make it as an air boat and keep most of the goodies higher, and you have room and floatation to add a waterproof radio box which could hold the motors if you want to go conventional....

Been to O.C. many times when working in D.C. Unless the Atlantic is flat calm small boats won't do very well there.

also salt water can really screw a boat up if you dont respect its corrosive nature. You can sail in salt ewater, but post sail cleaning is essential otherwise it will come to haunt you

Yeah I got 2 280 motors that look like they came off the Titanic...if the titanic that sunk back in 1912 was RC that is... :D

...also watch for scoring of the propshafts...and even the most water tight looking boats can take on water...

My RTR smasher was in 1 foot waves on the east river...to scale that would have been around a hundred foot seas...and I dont know many ships that can take that for long...my smasher was in the soup for nearly 5 minutes when I realized that the main deck wasnt supposed to be AT the water line...scooped it up in time though.

I think you could get away with buying a RTR smasher, and just be sure to epoxy around the edge where the deck and hull meet...ESPECIALLY at the bow...this is the only real way for the sea to get in cept the shafts...the hole between the props goes to a small ballast tank which has a styrofoam block in it...this is also seperate and water-tight from the rest of the boat.

*note...it is a safety toy sorta thing, will only turn the props when wet.

If you wanna see what they look like apart...here is my refit thread:

I got mine for about $50 total with shipping...and its nearly impossible to find one on ebay for less.

Honestly though try to find one for less than $40...they seem to have good potential...models of Russian Sovremmeny Destroyers

Good luck, and god speed on that beast of a sea.
