Downgraded to 5.4, thankfully. No reports of injuries so far.

5.0 earthquakes were routine around here in the 80's. There are a lot more people nowadays though.

I was looking at the times of the previous posts and it took me a few minutes to realize that my time zone for this site is on Shanghai time. Actually I am in downtown LA right now and was standing between a couple equipment racks when the quake hit. Not long enough to do anything except hold on to the racks to keep from falling. I was on the ground floor but the people on 29 said the swaying lasted longer. No problems except for people on the elevators at the time (elevators stopped) and it was a long walk down the stairs. After a while the elevators started working but only up to the 18th floor. had to take stairs the rest of the way. Lived in LA for 8 years but this is the first one I really felt. I don't know why everyone went out on the sidewalk to talk about it. I would be more afraid of falling glass from the buildings.

So far, I've been through a hurricane in Corpus Christie, Texas, a flood in Houston and a tornado in some small town in Alabama (and yes, they do actively search for mobile homes). So now, an earthquake. Whats left? I want to get back home to Shanghai where it safe.
