I have a Cirrus CS-101 servo that is in need of a new position sensing pot. it looks to be a surface mount trim pot. has anyone ever replaced one of these? if so, where did you get the part and what is the Mfg part number and Mfg name? i could get another servo, but it cost $16.99 where the trim pots are only $1.09 or so.

thanks,
wingnutt

trim pots aren't rated for a lot of cycles, usually less than 200 from what i've seen.

does it look something like this? http://media.digikey.com/photos/Murata%20Photos/SV01A%20SERIES.jpg

this and a similar one by panasonic are sold by digikey and have a life of one million cycles. only available in 10K ohm.

kind of. except it only has two contacts on one side and one on the other (wiper). the center is a post that sticks up about 1mm and is slotted for a phillips screwdriver. i hear what your saying about the low cycle life. most i have seen on a trimmer is 200 cycles. so should i look for an smt pot and not a trimpot?

also, the dimensions are 3mm wide, about 4.5mm long (including contact tabs) and 1.8 to 2mm tall (including post).

the pot in the picture is about 10mm wide and i haven't seen any real SMD pot smaller than that. the slotted shaft really makes it sound like they used a trimpot so i guess they were just crossing their fingers and hoping they would last...
