Are there any good programs that are good pic simulators to test code and ideas with out building the circuit.
thanks

Yes, but most are not cheap. Google your subject and you'll find a few examples

Mike,
If you like Basic then the Oshonsoft offering is good value at 29Euros...

The free MPLAB has a very good simulator.

had the feeling he was after a Spice type application where you could design the circuit, then run the code and simulate what happens when pressing virtual buttons etc

gpsim is a free (http://www.dattalo.com/gnupic/gpsim.html) PIC simulator.
It does sound like he wants a hybrid PIC simulator/circuit simulator. I'm sure it is possible to make such a program, but I am not aware of one.

have a look here (http://www.crocodile-clips.com/)
Lots of simulation software, including some PIC stuff.
If you googel "electronic spice application" you get lots of hits for stuff like
"Visual spice"
"B2 Spice"
or the one I've used "Proteus VSM"
I'll let you google for the links - ;)

I can only recommend you Proteus VSM for testing your PIC programs in a SPICE simulation mode. Works quite well. But it's *NOT* free.
faraz101 > You certainly downloaded a cracked version.

I installed Linux on my machine just so I can work with kTechLab,
KTechLab is an Open Source Intergated Design Environment (IDE) for electronic and PIC microcontroller circuit design and simulation.
http://ktechlab.org/
You can read Lifehacker.com post where they describe how to launch Linux Applications in Windows without actually installing Linux.

Have fun !

I'm third for Proteus VSM. You can simulate Hex and Basic files as well.
