Nothing about it on the Maumee Valley Model Boat Club (http://www.geocities.com/mvmbc1/index.htm) web site.
Boatnerd.com lists this event:
August 3 - Willis B. Boyer Marine Mart and Model Ship Display
Co-sponsored by the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, Boyer/Riverfront Inc., Great Lakes & Seaway Shipping (BoatNerd.com) and Diamond Jack's River Tours, the event will take place in shoreside tents next to the museum ship Willis B. Boyer in Toledo. The show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is only $6.00 and includes a tour of the Boyer. In addition to many vendors with marine items for sale, there will be a pond with a model boat display. BBQ and refreshments will be available on the grounds.
There is also the Toledo Antique & Classic Boat Show (http://toledoboatshow.com/) being held August 23 at the S.S. WILLIS BOYER Museum Ship and International Park. The CLeveland Model Boat was invited to the Toledo Boat SHow this year by Ramsey Brothers Restorations - while we were at the Lakeside Wooden Boat Show near Marblehead. It's best to call them for more info, and leave a message - they will get back to you.

Any info, Bob, on whether there will be a pond on the 23rd? Supposed to be one on the 3rd, but I'd rather hang out with the classics than the flea market wanna-be classics!

Pat,
I'd rather hang out with the classic boats too. I'm looking forward to getting a close look at MISS AMERICA X hydroplane. No word on a pond yet. I talked with one of the Ramsey Brothes, and they mentioned running models in the fountain. When I get home from work tonight, I'll send a follow up e-mail to the key people in theToledo and Michigan boat clubs. When we were at the Lakeside Show last week, they were surprised to learn that there was a model boat club in the greater Toledo area. I told them that I was going to extend their invite to the Toledo and Michigan clubs, and they said there was no problem.

Do we all agree that the August 23 show is the better of the two?
My problem with the Aug 3rd one is they talk about having the models ON the Boyer... not real good for a wheelchair..lol

The Boyer is worth the effort. She is a true classic Laker right down to the bone.

Patric,
I think the Aug 23 event will be the better one. It's a classic and antique boat & car show, which means that it will draw a larger crowd than the marine flea market. For those of us who have built, or are considering building, a mahogany runabout the Aug 23 event is a better place for research with the camera and notebook. One of the sponsors is Ramsey Brothers Restorations, they build and restore wooden boats; I'm sure we can pick up a few pointers on finishing from these guys.
When we were at the Lakeside Wooden Boat show, I took some photos of the boats. Most of the boats on trailers were Chris Crafts; most of the boats in the water were Lyman's.

Very good!
I'll encourage the Michigan Scale Model Boat Club to participate in the 8-23 event then.
Hope to see you there Bob!

Pat,
I sent them an e-mail with links to this thread and the boatnerd.com info on the Aug 3 show. I asked if the could get that pond for the show on Aug 23. I talked with them again on Monday, and they requested that we send in a signed registration form. Under the Boat Registration heading, I wrote in: " I will be displaying model boats and need 1 table for the display."

The Toledo Wooden Boat Show (http://toledoboatshow.com/) seemed to be a success. We handed out some info fliers on the hobby and the area clubs. Unfortunately, noblody form the Maumee Valley Model Boat club showed up, the clubs represented were the Cleveland MBC (http://www.clevelandmodelboat.org/) and the Michigan Scale MBC (http://www.michiganmodelboats.com/). We had a few offers to buy our models. Don from Loyalhanna Dockyard (http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/) stopped by to deliver som parts and showed us the latest Hartman Fiberglass (http://www.hartmanmodelboats.com/) catalogs.
The show featured wooden boats and classic cars lined up from the WILLIS S. BOYER Museum ship north to the Docks. Some of the boats were displayed on land, most were in the water. One of the bigger attractions was Gar Wood's 1932 hydroplane MISS AMERIA X.

Getting back to the old Dart which chased some Rum Runners for the USCG. Any ideas on how to duplicate the finish?
Use a piece of window screen as a mask to duplicate the alligator paint finish.
Maybe bleach the wood to give it that aged look?
A couple of passes with a torch to round off the plank edges.
Use a bead blaster to distress the wood.

Thanks for the pix, Bob!
Check out Steve Roger's model boat books, he does a lot of distressing.
I've also seen weathered grain done with a wire wheel...

Yes indeed! great pictures of some very interesting boats (and cars) :)
I love the view from the drivers seat on M.A. X! the driver and mechanic must have been completely 'high' after riding behind those exhausts! :D

I showed my brother the picture of the Crosley. He said when he was a kid a neighbor used to drive 6 kids to school in one. Talk about a circus.
