This should be fun.
First off, you have to know what is different about gold vs other elements and compounds, and also what is the same.
You can use a standard metal detector to find metals, but to differentiate between gold and other metals you'll have to use another method.
More than likely anything you come up with will involve take a sample of a material and performing tests on it. Don't expect to find a magic wand that lights up when you point it at gold.
Although... women often can perform this feat.

OMG, the guy actually reported me for saying "this thread is hilarious".... and it appears several others have had this happen as well.
Reason:
" The author has attacked another user's intelligence, character, or appearance."
Since when does saying "this thread is hilarious" mean the above? WOW, I am speechless. I think calling someone a "goof" and a "pig" fits that category a lot better than what I said yet I get reported...hmmmm somethings not right here.

In all seriousness, the Fischer family in Key West, Florida uses a specific type of metal detector when conducting their ongoing searches for the Atocha (one of the richest treasure finds in history). I just saw a documentary on this last week, but I can't remember the name of the technology, sorry. But it apparently has a very sensitive discriminator circuit that "skips over" things that are not of interest to them like naturally occurring iron deposits.
Also, please don't take it personally when posters try to inject some levity into the forums. They don't mean any harm (hence the smiley faces). I'm just as bad as the rest of them, I was going to say something about bringing a woman along with you, but since you asked me not to, I didn't kid with you. I respect your request for seriousness. When the rest of us joke around, you're always free to joke back if you want to. Unfortunately, reporting other posters is just going to make things worse for you and cause others to look for reasons to report you as well. Nobody wants that, we like a friendly atmosphere.
Good luck in your search, I know what you seek exists. If I come up with the answer, I'll be sure to post it here for you.

For starters- this place isn't the best place to look for plans for these kinda things. The folks that hang around here are RC guys. You should try searching for plans online first- I'm sure you'd find a goldmine or two worth of information ;)

All metals have the property of changing the inductance of a coil. Every metal changes the inductance by an amount specific to the property of that metal or alloy.
A great example of the practical use is in coin operated machines, likepayfone, drink or snack machines, the coins pass through a channel in the "validator" where it is briefly subjected to an AC field, different coins have different compositions and as the composition of a coin is unique, it changed the frquency in a way specific to that value of coin, by that means the coin value is identified (or rejected). You could fool a machine into thinking you put a dollar into the machine IF you made metal disks with the same alloy as a dollar.
It would be easy to make a machine that responded only to gold, but how about if the gold was buried in an iron box? you would also miss the silver and platinum :D

If there was a reliable easy way to detect gold, all the mining exploration companies would be using it. All the metal detector/treasure horde seekers would be using it.
They are not. Draw your own conclusions..

HI SEPEHR
Just look at this Forum Title :
RC Groups AIRCRAFT - GENERAL - DIY Electronics ...
You do not speak about R/C, you do not speak about Aircrafts ... and it is not the first time.
Your Thread has nothing to do here ... and Moreover, you have links to - dedicated - forums.
I can report too ... If you want.
I know some years ago, a French company has "invented" Black gold detector planes ... Lol.
But it has been proven it was a pure fraud ...
Please ... Bail out !!!

So true. And if there was a reliable way and I knew how, I sure wouldn't tell anyone else how, and certainly not for free to anyone on the Internet that wants to know.
This whole thread is a farce and has been a highly entertaining read. But I remind the OP, as have many others, that his question is very off-topic and he needs to respect the forum and the other users in it by following its rules.

There was once a device which could make images of structures based on their density (or neutron quantity)... Cant think of the name, but gold is extremely dense :-D

Why bother, just buy a Minelab there is nothing better. The new ones go over 1 Mtr deep, and will have you digging for hours on that faint target only to find its more lead.
I'd imagine that there would be a fair amount of lead in Iran.

As a child I found a strange book in the library on divining. It had a chapter on using a pendulum and a table of the pendulum length needed for the type of object you were after. Interestingly the length for gold was the same as for anything female (honestly).
My brother and I tried to find a gold ring lost in the compost heap, no luck but we found lots of worms, which, being half female, proves it works :)

Working logically from this information, my wife's son (my step-son) is guaranteed to locate anything nearby that is female. Matter-of-fact, it will usually wind up pregnant. Maybe if we told him he was looking for something "female", he would instead locate the loot?
Wait a minute, there must be a flaw in the logic here, 'cause he's always broke, too.............
