hey guys,
just thought i would pass this along.
always wanted a light weight awning i could set up by myself.
i have a EZ-UP but it's to heavy for my bad back to handle by myself.
just got one of these, and it's perfect!
light weight, sets up fast by yourself, and looks like it will handle the wind really good.
center height is adjusted by just pulling the legs in. i have them out about half way in this pic.
the back wind panel i have on snaps in place or can be removed.
site says 2-3 weeks for delivery, i got it in 3 days.

now i have my new retirement home and i can throw away that cardboard box i was going to have to live in. life is good! :)

Dave,
Because of the economy, price of gas and recent sailplane expenditures, the mortgage company recently foreclosed on my awning. Can you send pictures of your used cardboard box?

Wow A combination house and hangglider. I think I'll get one of those for my wife, and take her slope soaring :D
It's OK, she's a good sport----I hope

That is pretty cool. A hang glider for my bride, no way!! she will never go for it. First reason is that she won't do it, other reason, well, won't support her. Would have to be about 10 times as big.
The box and awning part is really funny. Really funny.

David,
Bring it to the sod farm this weekend, to see if the DD&B can set it up ;-)

Yeah, bring it to the sod farm. I'll bring it home and store it for you. Right over one end of the pool. It would be nice to have a bit of shade in there. The water is 85*. I could launch, get in the pool and have some shade. :D I may have to get one of these!

real easy to set up, slide the three poles thru the sleeves, hook one end of the three poles thru a hoop, and it's up.
the poles sections are held together with a bungie type cord running thru the poles sections, so the pieces all stay together for each pole.
everything packs in a really small bag.

Dave,
Phil (Encore DLG) Pearson used a couple of these for the past few years. It worked well and offered great shade. This past year he replaced them due to age and went with an EZ up. I believe due to the price and availability.

That sounds good. I wonder the difference in size. Phil's seemed smaller than the one Dave has.

Wow, great find especially since REI is walking distance from my work! I was about to order one from Sierra Trading but this beats their sale price: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/search/SearchResults.aspx?allwords=alps%20tri&searchdescriptions=true

My awning arrived today (Weds). I've not opened it up completely, but it looks pretty good. I may well be going back to REI for a hat. They have some really good hats for keeping to sun off of the head and neck. Reasonably priced too. Thanks HOOT for the lead.

My awning arrived today. Thanks for the heads up on this thing Dave. As soon as I opened it I set it up in the living room. (we have a large living room) The thing is huge and should work great over the pool and for flying. It would have been handy Sunday as it was a burner out there.

Since Dave hasn't posted yet I will. We finally had a chance to meet and we set up the awning to give it a try at the field. Does this guy look comfy or what? Even had Joe holding his water and fanning him. Who says soaring isn't hard work? :D All 3 of us couold actually get in the shade and fly at the same time. SWEEET!!!

Without trying to sound like a total moron here, did you guys notice any colour coding on the canopy? There are three poles, one grey (the shortest) and two black. The canopy is supposed to be colour coded for the location of the poles. I didn't see that. I tried laying it on the ground and sizing everything, but it was too windy (frustrating). I just started ramming poles home. It went up and seemed to be ok so I pegged it down and used it. A great canopy other than the initial agro.

How much commission are you guys making off these things  I think I'll take mine to the pool, turn it upside down, and see how many cold beers it will hold :D

LMAO, mine has no coding as well. If you look two slots are the same size and form the sides (black poles). One is shorter (grey pole one) it runs from the door center to the back. Hope that helps. I said the same thing when I put mine up the first time.

Thanks Steve.
atjurhs, enough to buy the beer and find out that when you put the canopy in a pool upside down and fill it with the beer, the three bloody big openings let water in and it sinks :D

at the center of the awning there is a gray tag, put the gray pole in there.
the others aren't marked but no need....
start with the bottom sleeve when sliding the poles in, makes it easier.

Thanks for the tipoff on this item. it looks really nice and i am tempted...
there appear to be tie down loops on the ribs on the side
QUESTION:
are there holes/grommits/loops to STAKE DOWN the bases?
the last thing youd want is for this thing to roll over your plane when those squalls blow thru

The fabric is a sun shield and fits in either one of two openings. There are hooks on the fabric and rings inside two of the openings.
There are loops on the bottoms where the rods exit. There are also tie downs to attach to the rings on the canopy. We had 16mph gusts on Sunday and although it flexed, it stayed in place just fine.

Are you saying that it's designed not for the front opening but for the sides? I hadn't considered that.

I guess it's the sides and not the front, but yes only two of the three openings allow for the sun screen. Positioned correctly, that should allow for a full day of sun and only require moving the screen, not the whole canopy.
