Depends on the surface. Ammonia and alcohol mixed together works real good. So does steam.

Petroleum based grease? Dawn Dish washing liquid. We use it at work to clean cutting oil off of Brass parts and to wash grease off our hands.

In the old days we just threw everything in a bucket of gas, leaded of course, and cleaned stuff with our hands and a brush.

Hey..in the USN we used the "bug juice" ....sort like kool aid....to clean stuff....works great on brass fire hose nozzles! Makes ya wonder what you were putting in your belly :D

I remove oil and grease with standard "Tide" laundry detergent. It pulls every ounce of oil and grease off my engines... and works well in the pressure washer! LOL! :D
