I have mounted the 5400kV Wicked Extreme EDF motor into a Haoye 7 blade 51mm EDF unit:

EDF Ducted Fan Unit 7Blade 2inch/51mm
Blade Diameter: 51mm/2inch
Blade Type: 7
Shaft: 3mm
Made from high strength reinforced plastic.

Current draw is 38.7A using a PolyQuest 2200 25C 3 cell lipo.

The thrust is extreme. I took it up to half throttle first wind up and that was severe - enough to show that I had not tightened the prop adapter on near tight enough. It needs CA to bond it. The impeller flew off - adapter and all and took out 2 finger tips and my guts thanks to the way I was holding the shroud. I have some nice deep gashes now. :o

I'll be mounting this setup into an Ultrafly Hawk EDF conversion. I fully expect performance to be fantastic! :D

Please post pictures of your plane and let us know how it goes. The 7 blade Haoye fan sure makes a lot of thrust for its small size!

Hello Don
Do you know when you will have more of the Wicked Extreme 5400kV in stock?
I smoked my Himax 2025-5300 yesterday, and i need a new motor for my Alfa F86.
The motor housing in the fan deformed of the heat from the motor, so i will have to find a new fan also.

Regards
Anders

I was reading in Model Aviation magazine (AMA) and they had pic's of one of your motors talking about EDF's,,, the content of the article was quite interesting ,congrats. I did not see who wrote it but it was very good .
The motor I purchased from you is working great and will probably be ordering a couple more here pretty soon .. thanks for an excellent option to the over stated.

Don, Can you please give us a post when the 5400's are back in stock. I am very interested in trying one out in my newest project... Thanks!

Just checked and they cleared US customs this morning so there is a good chance they will be in tomorrow!

Don - I've ordered a phase 3 F-16. Can I run a 5400kV Wicked Extreme motor, Pentium 40 Amp ESC, FlightPower LiPO 14.8V 2000mAh 30C battery using the stock fan? I've flown two of these planes stock and I think they are awesome. I was going to build it stock until I started reading more about the plane on different forums. Your 5400kV Wicked Extreme motor kept being mentioned. Now I'm thinking upgrading might be cool. Thanks for any help - Seth

Yes you can run the Wicked 5400 on 4S in the stock EDF fan unit just watch your amps on a fresh charged pack as the high C rated lipos can put out the power the first 30 seconds on a charge.

Thanks a Million Don . . . the phase 3 f-16 are on back order, but I'll get one soon.

Hello Don,

I have purchased an Exceed F-18C 70mm and Sapac F-22 twin 64mm. Any recomendation on set-up both running on 4-5S ThunderPower Extreem V2. I'd like it catch your L-39 ;)

I am dedicated!!!! Good thing the shipment came in today, now I can eat turkey all day Thursday. We are having one regular and one deep fried :D

You show this motor used with the Great Planes Hyperflow fan. This appears to violate the warning that is shipped with fan, limiting the operating speed to 50000 rpm. Has this been a problem, or is the resulting full load speed less than that number?

In the Hyperflow fan the Wicked 5400 on 3S is about 45k rpm.

If I install the Hyperflow fan eguipped with the extreme 5400 in a HP phase 3 F-16, what would be the recommended battery and ESC for that set-up. Would you expect there would be sufficient power for fixed lg off a paved runway?

40 amp ESC on a 3S lipo. You will have about 22 oz of thrust. You should be about to ROG on that I would think :)

Hey Don,

Using the Wicked Extreme, which fan did you find to have the most thrust? I'm looking to compete in the fun-fly competition this year with an EDF... just cause I can, and I need good overall performance, so more thrust the better. I will be using a 20C 3s2100. Also, my field elevation is approx 5000ft so i have about a 15% reduction in power versus you low landers, I don't know if that will aid in your recomendation. Let me know whatcha think!

Did you ever try the GWS EDF-64 with the extreme? If it was at 45amps or less, that would give me 38 at my field.

The extreme in the Alfa 5 blade is a pretty good 3S setup. I never ran the GWS EDF64 in the extreme as I have heard those rotors blow apart at higher rpms. I did test it in the EDO 64mm fan (5 blade) that comes in all these new ARF jets. It was about 45 amps here in Ohio at 700ft elevation, but at your elevation it may just be perfect.

Hey Don, got any actual thrust figures for this motor? Im thinking of picking one up from the LHS today for my Kyosho F-4. I have a Hyperflow fan shroud with a Hayoye 7 blade fan installed in it. 400 watts should make this tiny plane rip and i can lose some weight by swapping out the 4s setup for a 2200 3s.

I did pick up one of these motors today. Put it into my Kyosho F-4 with a cut down GWS 6 blade rotor that fits a 55mm fan. Might try my Hayoye fan later on. Its pulling 32amps and i showed 400 grams thrust in the airframe. This airframe has terrible thrust efficiency and my lipo is getting a bit weak, so im sure its capable of much better results. Flys great, id estimate speed to be around 65mph+ level. For this tiny hard to see plane thats plenty fast enough.

I use to try and get thrust numbers but that proved very difficult. Too many variable, inlet and outlet size, ducting length and type, etc. So that is why I went to RPMs.

Thats probably a better way to measure results. This motor is the perfect kv rateing for a small plane that can handle a 3s 2200mah lipo. Not too much amp draw and just the right amount of thrust for a little light jet.

Hey Don, im getting ready to try out a 4s setup on this motor. Right now im pulling 32 amps on 3s and i expect to be around 44~45 amps with the 4s. I notice your website shows about 44amps on an XF fan, thats alota amps. So i assume this motor can handle that much amp draw without getting cooked. Should i be mindfull of long WOT runs however? It runs good now but since i have a 2200 4s 25c laying around i might as well use it if the motor can handle it.

It will be fine on 4S.
