Im building on of these and can't decide which engine to
use looking at saito 62 or a os 70IIsurpass.
i like the saito but never used on and wonder if the 62 will
have enough power.. hope some can help..

Im useing a os 55 in mine. Its just about perfict. If your going to use a 4 cycle, I woud go with a Saito 82 But nothing smaller then a 72.

The 62 will fly it ok. I flew a H9 PTS P-51 using a saito 56 and an 11x8 MAS prop. The H9 PTS P-51 is heavier then most kyosho planes as well.
I do fly the Kyosho Me-109 with a saito 72 and a 12x8 though.

so the os 70 II surpass would be the way to go then.More so than the saito 62

I have gone a little big with a saito 82 !

nice Bigplumbs. If I did this one, i have a saito 91 lying around.....but...too many projects already in process or awaiting arrival of package to do this plane right now.

what size 3 blade prop would be good on the 72 saito on this plane im all fin just need prop..

kahloq
Jul 28, 2008, 11:38 AM
A saito 72 can turn a 12x8 2 blade at over 9800 rpm's, so a 12x8 3 blade will still be ok. I've run a couple saito 72's on the test stand with 12x8x3 props and got about 9100 rpms on a new motor(after a gallon of fuel and messing with the needle).

If your motor is stubborn at first, you can use an 11x8x3 until the motor loosens up enough to use the 12x8x3. You could also pitch down some and use a 12x6x3 if the rpm's arent good on the 12x8x3.

I have the same model Im building now,the manual calls for a 52-56 fourstroke. I might try mine w that first. I know if you put too much stress on these certain areas are prone to breaking.

Yippie the rain gods decided to take a day off,
At last test flown my 190.
Saito 72 up front.. could not wait for pilot to be fin
so empty cockpit but he's in now.Painted by my wife so thanks dear.
Shes a awesome flyer. Had two flights both landings were
dead stick landings was having so much fun forgot about time .but she lands so sweet it was no hassle at all.
She is a keeper this one.

Kyosho recommends a 52-56 4-cycle in this bird, how (and WHY) are you guys getting 72's and 82's in the thing? ...?

Is there room? Is there a NEED for engines that big, when the manufacturer recommends a 52 through 56?

biggles2008
Aug 12, 2008, 07:17 AM
yes there is loads of room for a 72.
i feel that a 52-56 4 stroke would make this plane
under perform. saito 72 is just right i reckon.

But, are you an "insane speed freak"? :D I would think the recommended engines would make the plane fly "scale", is this NOT the case for this model?

biggles2008
Aug 13, 2008, 12:45 AM
Thats why we have throttles, i think with the 52 you would be flying full throttle all the time just for scale.
the 52-56 is only a recommendation.

I just find you go there recommended size and your always flying full throttle, and when doing nice large
loops you run out of puff at the top so it tends to fall out.
so thats why i always use a bit more horse power..

I put a Saito 62 in mine w a 13X6 prop,It flies perfect!!!

Jon Craig
Aug 13, 2008, 07:32 AM
How badly did you have to cut up the cowl to get that engine to fit? I really don't want to damage the look of the plane just to fit a monster engine in.

helifann
Aug 13, 2008, 10:46 AM
The only thing I had to do to my cowel is cut a small hole for the muffler, the engine fits inside. The Saito 62 is actually the same size or smaller as a OS 52.

you will love it..I only used a couple for the alerions and a
y lead to join them. everything else is right next to receiver
i did use some short ones on receiver for the wing so i don't have to fiddle around trying to plug into receiver all the time. throttle and elevator rudder just pluged direct to recevier.. Keeps us informed how your build go's

Dora Nine, You will love the OS-55 with the pits. Thats what Im flying in mine. I had to enlarge the hole by the head because it would overheat. But once that was done no more problems. Now I just have to replace the retracts. One broke landing in the grass.

Dora Nine

Another note guys is I put a remote glow plug. So i dont have to reach under the cowel to attach my igniter,im going that route on all my planes, much easier!

I've done that before, these planes need runway speed to take-off. If you try to get up too soon thats what will happen.

Well mine is about 90% complete. Sadly because I'm now back at sea, progress has been put on hold for three weeks. Basically all I have left has to do with the motor-- throttle servo, installation, break in, cowl work. CG check, go fly. Everything else is done when I have more spare time, I'll post some pics I took of my progress. Overall I'm very happy with this model. If it flies as good as everyone says, it'll be in my hangar for a while to come. :D

any of you guys have a problem with C of G, coz my 190 needs 80 grammes of weight in the tail to balance it, i've got a sc 52 four stroke up front and it's got plenty of muscle to fly it, just that it's way nose heavy

I was had full up on the elevator to hold the tail down on the first part of my take off run. As I throttled up, I started to talk to a friend flying from the next over pilot station....forgot to let up on the elevator when she picked up speed and that's all she wrote :censored: ........Lesson learned.........pay attention to what you are doing!

A few questions: What did you use to make panel lines on the cowl? And what did you use for a Swastika for the tail?

Hi there.
i just used a permanent marker and for the swastika i used the left over black from the birds body. its all ready flat black so worked well.
She sure flies awesome and no bad habits.
I recommend it to anyone thats looking for a easy to fly warbird and it looks great too..

cant i just flip it back right side up? the LHS gave me this pitts muffler, it has no bolts but a screw type of clamp thats suppose to clamp onto the motor and i have to tap in my own hose line.

ok the pitts wont fit eitehr because itll hit the throttle cable, any tips or suggestions? im kind of tired of this.

Is there a inverted pitts muffler that will fit this engine in the fw190 mounted upside down?

Oct 03, 2008, 04:27 PM
Butters149, you might be able to use a Slimline Sport Scale muffler. I believe the following will fit a OS 55 ax but check with Slimline:

Well folks, I finally managed to maiden my FW-190 this morning. It was a bit windier than I would have liked, but I'm running out of vacation time and accuweather isn't showing any more favorable days for flying between now and my three weeks of tug time.. Either way I found that the plane handled the wind just fine. Take off roll was fairly short...probably around 40-45'. I know I could have made it much shorter, but I prefer to stretch it out some. With my OS-55 I found that the climb out was very positive. If you watch Jon's vid of his electric powered version, I'd say that our setups are similar. I found that the recomended control throws were right on. As was the CG. I had orginally turned the throws up a touch...but turned them back down after landing. Speaking on landing, the plane is very stable right down to touch down. Ground handling is very easy with the wide track landing gear. The foam wheels handled the grass much better than I had orginally anticapated. All in all this is fantastic plane and looks great in the air. This plane will be in my hangar from some time to come!

i put my CG as 4 1/2 inches, also can the OS 55 turn a MAS 12 x 6 or 7 3 bladed prop?

Dora Nine
Oct 08, 2008, 03:53 PM
I had a 12X8X3 but found it to be bit much. I have a 12X6X3 but I haven't had a chnce to test it. My guess is that it'll work just fine.

My FW 190 arrived today at work, needless to say not much work done for awhile.. :) Very nice ARF, can't wait to start it. My question is, I have a Saito 100, would it be to big
( dimension's / weight ) for this warbird? Would there be a CG issue?

stallwart
Oct 09, 2008, 06:37 PM
I think the 100 would be a bit much. Yes, you could fly at less than half throttle and balance with extra weight, but an engine in the 62 to 82 range would be my choice.

The larger prop needed for a 100 (even a 3 blade) might cause additional issues.

flyfanatic
Oct 10, 2008, 02:08 AM
I agree, going to kick around either a 55 ax laying around or a new os 81

Bind the RX again.

kahloq

I rebinded it, but its still doing it, I dont get it.

You need to bind the RX with the servos in the position you WANT them to be for default. So, if you want your landing gear to default to DOWN, bind the rx with the gear down(safest). Same with your flaps. If you want default to be flaps in the stowed position(meaning up), have them in that position and re-bind the rx. So....set all switches that control the servos in the position you want them to be for default. Turn off the rx, turn off the TX. Insert bind plug in rx. Repower the RX. Hold the button down on back of TX and then turn it on and wait for solid light on the rx.

Whats going on currently is, your rx was bound with the retracts in the up position. When you switch on the battery, the default position is immediately imposed until the rx gains LINK with the transmitter. This is why the gear tries to go up and then goes back down when you flip the rx on even though your TX is already on. it takes a second or so for the rx to link up initally since it searching the spread spectrum range for the ID code of your tx.
