HI,
I was watching both of your videos of the L-39 one with the Hyperflow wicked 5400 and the other with Alfa 5 blade. Both on 3s lipos...
Acording to your chart there is only a couple of amps lost by using the hyperflow over the alfa fan, but on the Videos. The Alfa seemed way, way  faster than the Hyperflow...............
In any case, I'm ganna use the Wicked 5400 motor with the 3s lipo, but if you think there is not that much difrence between the two? Then I rather save up the cost of the alfa fan and put it to another Lipo:)
Thanx.........
PS
I would love it if you can redo your videos and maybe do more low passes
Thank you......I can't wait.....

The Wicked 5400 video on the stock fan was with a 3S lipo. The Alfa fan video is on the Wicked 4000 on 4S. There is also another video posted of the Wicked 4000 on 4S with the stock fan. Personally for me the difference on the 4S Hyperflow unit and 4S Alfa fan was only about 5 mph if even that. Not worth the extra cost and time to mod to make the Alfa fit if you ask me. My next one willbe stock fan on Wicked 4000 and 4S lipo. Heck hobbycity has some 4S2200 20C lipos for $40.
Most of my videos are taken with my "head camera". I will try to get my buddy Bill to get some 4S video for me to post.

Thanx, for the reply and info. At this point I was trying to stay with 3 cells just becase I didn't wanted to upgrade my charger, battery and BEC (or new ESC) That's why I was aiming for the wicked 5400. I should still get good performence with 3 cells, stock fan and wicked 5400, right?
I didn't meant to be an ass about the your videos :D
Thanx

The W5400 on 3S on the stock fan is about 80-85mph. Still a good performer. Much better than stock!

:D Hello Don, i just order the gp L-39. I would like to pick up the 4800 or the 5400 3-s motor. I want to use the stock fan. What other parts do i need to buy to complete the set up??? Also how much faster are the two motor compare. speed wise???? Thanks Don

The 5400 on the stock fan is quite good and what I flew. Here is a head cam video I took of mine:

You order the motor with the "standoff adpater and no rotor plug" for the stock fan. I never flew it on the 4800 in that fan. The 4800 on 3s is about twice the stock power they recommend! I would say the 4800 will be about 10 mph slower than the 5400. By the way I also installed a reducer exit nozzle on mine to boost speed.

Thanks Don, I'll pick up the setup soon. I just order the speed control and the 2700 kv for my funjet. Gotta get that together first. Thanks again.

I just checked and I do not have a template for that one. But if someone can post the length from the back of the EDF unit to the the end of the outlet nozzle should be I can create one and post a PDF file.

Hi Don,
My question: I have a freewing L-39. I smoked the stock ESC when I used a 4 cell. I replaced the ESC with a 40 amp. Then I tried it again with the 4 cell and the motor fried. It has a 5 blade 64mm fan in it and I want to purchase another 5400 extreme and run 4 cell but not sure if the motor will handle it. My other choice will be the 4800 kv motor. I'd like to stick with the stock fan if possible. If not what fan? Do I order the motor with just the fan extension.
I have the 5400 extreme in my Phase 3 F-16 and love the speed. Fast enough, but not too fast.
Thanks

The Freewing stock ESCs are only good for 3S lipo, and the stock motor is only good for 3S lipo as well. The stock fan unit is OK, you want to order the Wicked 4800 with "standoff adapter and EDO plug" for 3S or the Wicked 4000 "with standoff and EDO plug" for 4S operation.

Hello Don, I just got my L-39 together with the 5400 kv and the 40 pentium speed control. How were you able to get your plane balance with the 3 or 4 s battery?? I tried the zippy 2200 20-30c and it was too nose heavy. I also have my motor all the way back with the speepcontrol in front of motor. Please help Thanks Don

On 3S I had no balance issue. Only on 4S. I had the lipo all the way back in the cockpit next to the elevator servo but it still was nose heavy but it made no real difference as on 4S it flew better a little nose heavy anyhow. I just had to hold a little extra up on landing.
