Hey guys.. Im not sure what to think about this one. I have had great experiences with HL before and I decided to give EVP a shot when the AXI hallow shafts and the blue EVP props went on sale ..cant be an AXI nearly 50% off with a $30 prop for just $5 right? I got it all hooked up and flew my plane. I followed the instructions that came with the EVP prop EXACTLY.. a drop of CA here and there, tighten it just right.. I have about 7 years experience setting up model helicopters and this was pretty similar minus a few things. I made sure everything was squared up and spinning smoothly, checked the amp draw on my E-meter, made sure there was absolutely nothing weird happening. I went out and flew my biplane. It flew great, nice and slow but when I kicked it into EVP mode, the HS-55 couldnt pull the rod back and it got stuck at 100% throttle and 0 pitch for a split second, I flipped the switch back and it flew fine again. Oh well I thought, I landed and noticed my brand new HS-55's acting weird, the rudder servo was moving awfully slow, and was getting stuck then becoming unresponsive. My elevator and ailerons started twitching too. I shut it down and started it up again..I reved that motor up and it got to about 30% throttle and it seemed like the LVC kicked in but not completely. I thought the battery was toast but it wasnt.. the prop was!

I took it in the house to asses the damage, and the plastic spinner some how contacted the pitch slider and melted a very large hole into it. I went to go take off the pitch slider and I pulled on the silver collar behind it, and the carbon shaft broke!? I have applied more force to thinner and equal sizes pieces that have never been hot before and the have never broke..I get the rod out and try to pull the plastic clevis off and then the carbon snaps there too!?

Alright, I set it in the box, CF rod is easy to get, so are clevis's..but where can I get a replacement pitch slider that wont cost me $5 shipping plus what ever the part cost?

To add insult to injury, I went ahead and put a prop saver on (since the radial mount wont work) I put a 2mm drill bit in the center to keep the screws from crushing the shaft. I put an APC 9x3.8sf on and went to fly. I had nearly no power (I checked my throttle curves and it was linear) Infact, when I hit 30% throttle the thing wouldnt rev up any higher. I am running now running 3 servos on an 18 amp ESC with fresh batteries that can put out 22.5 amps. It wouldnt rev up any more..so I take it in and gut the plane. The motor had an awful amount of resistance to turn, so I unhooked it from the ESC and then it spun freely..the ESC is now acting up. That maybe a separate issue though..

So is there any addendum instructions I did not get that said to lube the prop or something? Im a bit disappointed..and my only alternative is to buy the $35 E flight EVP prop that looks like my raven 30's tail rotor assembly..Are parts still available for the prop? I checked the HL site but couldnt find any..Im just glad I did not pay the full $30 bucks for that :censored: prop..

No ideas or anything?!

I ended up taking the old Tail rotor off my T rex 450xl.. Turns out its the same thing almost. Im not real surprised though. I need to drill the 3mm hub out to 3.2mm and then it will fit. This one has thrust bearings, high quality grips, and is compatible with ball links instead of clip on thingys. Not to mention I get a 45 degree angle plus and minus..so no need to worry about travel. Im using a FUTABA round servo arm as a pitch slider. Turns out that the black plastic washers fit inside the top where the screw head would normally sit. I got some rocket city ball joints hooked up on it.. So I just need a 2mm collar and its done..
