Can I control a big DC motor by using my regular ol' speed 400 ESC to drive a solid state relay, which will control the large DC motor. I know that will only accomplish one-way operation with no brake... I think.

I'm guessing the switching rate of the relay vs the rate of the ESC is important

Anybody done this?
Thank you! Dē

Most solid state relays are not more than mosfets inside them. Consider changing and or upgrading the fets used on your current controller.

I did this to a small 10 amp controller and used it on my weight lifting airplane. 10 cells to an Astro FAI05G and 12x10 prop is 50 amps - no problems yet. I used 6 IRFZ44's. $1.85 each at local surplus store.
