Hey Racers,

I am looking for a lap counting program that counts laps, time, and racing
order that uses the computer only without transponders.

This is type of program runs by having a person can sit on the sidelines who
hits the car number on the computer as the numbers are called out to him/her
as they go by. In other words, it was a fairly sophisticated program BUT it
didn't use "transponders"

I don't know of any software out there that does that (though I
haven't looked), but if you tell me what you want it to do and how
little you want it to cost I can write one for ya.

HPI Micro RS4 Viper GTSR- Absolutely not for sale
AE RC10LSS Diablo VT- Maybe for sale
HPI RS4 Sport 2- Wanted, cheap and unbuilt ;)

Time would be a huge problem.

I have one program that will allow tracking of upto 8 cars. You press a
button when each car goes over the line and it will tell you how many laps
they have done and who is in the lead and the order etc. etc.

Pit-Tools has a race timing module in it which can what you want including
sorts, finals, frequency clashes, save drivers, etc. Costs 15 UK pounds
(approx 25 US dollars) and can be ordered online.
The program can be downloaded from

Hi

Im actually developing such a program at the moment, so if you would
like to be "test" person, then we could work something out.

Surely every PC has an internal clock?

A mate of mine wrote a program in QBasic, years ago, to do this job -
I've also seen it done on a BBC-B, or maybe it was a Commodore 64. It's
not difficult if you have basic programming knowledge.

Also, at least one of the popular software systems in the UK supports
lapcounting through keypresses (for ten cars - 1 thru' 0) 'cos I've
raced (and done the keypressing) with it at Shipston-on-Stour!

I am not currently writing a race timing program which runs on a PSION 3a
handheld computer.
The program reads heats/drivers from a standard Psion database (can scroll
back and forward from one heat/race to the next). Currently accepts 6 cars
per race.
Laptimes accurate to 100th of a second (actually accurate to 1000th of a
second but I believe pointless displaying this).
All laps for each car can be veiw and/or printed after race.
Sorts positions at end of race - results can be printed.
Race length, minimum laptime can be changed.
Oh, it beeps at the start and end of a race too :-)

No finals sorting as yet (would have to be entered manually at present), but
enough to run races for a few drivers starting a club. I can't remember what
else as I haven't been able to write any more for the past 2 weeks due to
work. I WILL get back into it soon though.

I bought one on eBay just before Christmas and have written several programs
for it since. These little computers will go for days on 2 charged AA cells.
The beauty of the Psion is that it has a qwerty keyboard so it is easy to
press the car numbers.

I wrote the program as I thought it would be handy for a new local club
which just has a handful of drivers and the tiny Psion is much easier to
carry about than a pc and generator!

I doubt if I'll develop the software into a full blown race control system
as there is not need for me to re-invent the wheel, and besides, the Psion 3
language isn't really powerful enough.
