Opened on Christmas. Broken in according to instructions. Odometer at a
gallon and a half, Traxxas 20%. Run time has been excellent. Down time
totals the length of time to change the stock glow plug. Used for showing
off and bashing. Best RC I ever had. Never boring. Mad power. Truck has
survived horrible crashes and many poor judgements on the drivers' part with
hardly a complaint. The worst crash due to letting the receiver batteries
grow a bit old, as the day wore on the steering grew worse, the radius grew
much wider, I misjudged a 180 and rammed a concrete curb at speed. The Maxx
hiccuped but soldiered on. Easy to tune and very responsive. The LHS has
tons of Traxxas and aftermarket parts.
Parts used:
a.. Spark plug wire
b.. cylinder head protector
c.. glow plug
d.. tons of body r-clips
e.. new body for non-running posing
f.. tons of AA's
Parts needed soon:
a.. Body mounts (bent)
Best Aftermarket purchase:
a.. Pro-Lines' mounted street slicks. Despite the increased width of
the truck due to the wheels' radical offset, these tires make any little bit
of street fair game to stunt the Maxx. Traction is crazy and back-flips are
common with the slightest throttle. Braking effect is greatly enhanced too.
Steering is a whole new ball-game and I am still rolling the truck too
often. Acceleration and top speed seem to be increased also. These wheels
are lookers.
Wanted to buy but can't find:
a.. I heard that there are adapters so 1/8 buggy tires can be fitted to
the Maxx. Someone said OFNA but still can't find.......anybody? I'm
thinking the handling might be a lot of fun to play with.....
Traxxas disappointments:
a.. Glow plugs unavailable. Substitutions are just not worthy. Come on
Traxxas where is the darn support for the customer.......unacceptable.
Obviously the plugs are being sold in RTR's 'cuz that's where the profit is
but still!!! And that is also the reason why drop-in 2.5 engines are also
unavailable. Sure would like to have a back-up engine on hand to minimize
down-time when the time comes. No assembly/disassembly instructions means
the Maxx is best suited to the mechanically adept.
Uninstalled:
a.. Can't make up my mind about my New Era three-arm steel roll-cage.
Seems a tad weighty, although quite indestructable.
Next bit of work:
a.. Installing forward-only gearbox. Haven't used reverse once. Maybe
I can use the servo for something else?
I wonder if I could hide a Sportmaxx in the garage from my wife, she
wouldn't mind if she didn't know, right?
Later!!
